Electrical tape will unwind with time. Heat hastens the process.
To wrap the harnesses start at the large end and take a couple of wraps before starting to move along the harness. This will keep the starting end of the wrap secure. When you get to the end where you will stop the wrap put a small tie wrap around the wrap. This is the end that will unravel.
