Chassis Number Stamp Location

So i own #183 and its been titled in 3 different states including a different owner in TX and now the tax office wants to fight me on the Title transfer. They sent me a letter saying that the Vin number is invalid and that I need to provide a Photo of the Vin number or a stencil of the vin stamped into the frame. Does anyone know where the Chassis number might be stamped in it?

Right off hand, I don’t remember it being stamped in the frame. Maybe someone else will correct me.

But I know where you can buy stamps to add it.

I am not saying i did or didn't purchase a stamp set lol.

Even if there is a number from DF it won’t qualify as a VIN. It would only be the chassis number. Typically the state supplies the VIN on these and mine is just a tag riveted to the frame.

Ya they are requesting the vin tag or an etching of the imprint using a pencil. Was hoping the chassis number was printed on the body somewhere to make this easy

Correct. Only the vin tag thats behind the dr seat area. Could easily be stamped somewhere else if you put it there though

I found mine. They powder coated over it so you can see that there is a plate but can't read it. I'm gonna see if I can get a new one. If not, I'll see if I can drill it and clean it up

Before you work too hard at it, you need to find out if an 8-digit number will do you any good with your DMV. If they are wanting to be hard to work with, I bet they will try and insist that it have a standard 17-digit VIN.

Its already been titled and registered in Texas, I don't understand why they are giving me a hard time.

Before you work too hard at it, you need to find out if an 8-digit number will do you any good with your DMV. If they are wanting to be hard to work with, I bet they will try and insist that it have a standard 17-digit VIN.

It gets weird and tricky in Texas on that. I know his is already titled, but during the title process, you will submit the 8 digit vin Df supplies, BUT to get required state inspection, the computer will need a full 17 digits, so you’ll need 9 “0” in front of the vin to make it work. Then you have to hope DMV person can understand why this had to happen and that they are the same.

honestly, I”m surprised any of these are titled in Texas with the contradictions, rules that change on the fly, dmv staff that doesn’t know and extra hoops you need to go through for no reason, all for some guy in Austin to have the final say and it could go however it just goes.

Scrape the powder coating off of the tag, it will be readable then. Be careful, it is made from aluminum.

Scrape or lightly sand so the numbers are still full of powder coat but the remaining tag is bare aluminum.

Chemical on a q-tip.
Try carb choke cleaner or acetone. Something of the like.

Tn has a sticker also with a generated TNVIN.
