Do I really need to cut the rear springs down?

What would happen if I didn’t?

I had to buy new shocks and I’m leery about cutting them because mine don’t look like the video. See the pictures.

The back end will ride high. How much too high will depend on how much different the ones you got are from stock. You may want to assemble the vehicle and then start trimming the spring a little at a time until the car is level.

The important dimension is to have the suspension arms as level as possible (or very slightly angled downward) once you start cutting the spring down on the stock (or stock replacement) struts and springs. This must be achieved with weight sitting in the passenger compartment that is approximately equal to the anticipated weight of driver and passenger. Making this cutting adjustment without the weight in the car will make the car sit low in the rear. :)
