V1 Downsizing tires

I’m currently running 255/40/18 up front and 275/40/18 out back. I was reading and it seems like if I ran a 255 outback I’d probably get better handling. I mainly beat the snot out of it on the street and like to launch it a lot. I also want it to do well in Autocross. I don’t want to loose the ability to launch well. Thoughts?

Staggered set up or even? If going staggered a 225 on the front could be a better match up - tire diameter and tread width ratio front to rear - with the 255 on the rear. There is always lots of debate about tire sizes, but it comes down to what works best on your Goblin. :D

With my experience tire compound will make a bigger difference than 20 mm. I have azenis rt660s for the road but they did well in autocross with the right pressure and temperature. 245/40/15

@SmsDetroit is using 18 inch rims. Experience and examples should try to stick with the 18 inch sizes if possible. There can be some significant differences between 18s and other sizes, especially down to 15s.

But yes, compounds for racing and TW ratings for street tires will make a huge difference in braking, cornering and acceleration. As has been stated numerous times on the forum a 200TW is as hard as anyone should be installing on their Goblin to take advantage of the handling potential. :D

SMS what tire are you running? When you mean better handling do you want it to rotate more in corners or do you need it to be stick better?

Personally I don’t think you’re going to lose much if any forward bite if you run square 255s. As long as the bead isn’t stretched too much it should be fine.
