Goblin vs Ariel Atom

Just reading about the Ariel Atom. They say they weight 1349 lbs. My extended LSJ Powered Goblin weights 1620 lbs. Anyone have an idea why the A A is lighter? It has like a 100 hp more too.

I am pretty confident that 1349 number is a NA Honda 4 cylinder. It won’t make more than your LSJ, also, if you compare the chassis, the atom has a lot less protection, so the goblin chassis looks like it will weigh more with the extra tubing. I think you could get a goblin down to to about the atom numbers if you were serious enough about cutting weight.

The atom uses titanium for its chassis which is ~33% lighter than chromoly. Saying the atom chassis has less protection is incorrect.
I didn’t know it was titanium! That does make a difference! But what I was saying is that there is a lot less protection built into it vs a goblin. You would save a lot of weight with wheels, brakes and so on, race car guys love saving weight.

IIRC my LSJ goblin was only about 1500lb you can save a bunch of weight going to a lithium race battery vs the lead acid also.

15” light weight wheels, 2 piece rotors, light weight seat (one because no passenger seat for weight savings), light weight lithium battery, you could save 150-200 pounds depending on what you had before. Running a NA ecotec would save some more weight, but you would of course lose hp.

I don't think they ever implemented the titanium chassis. Their website says "The basis of Atom 4 is an all-new tubular chassis, designed in-house by the Ariel engineering and design team, with much learning coming from the Titanium Chassis R&D project of 2014. " and " Bronze welded multi diameter ERW /CDS steel tube".
