Everyone does it a little differently and it's entirely up to you how fast you want it done or how meticulous you want to be or how custom you want to make it.
My build timeline looks like this:
Kit ordered - March 25th
Donor purchased - April 17th
Donor stripped - April 25th
Picked up kit - June 4th
Add-ons welded - June 5th
Powder coat done - June 11th
Start assembly - June 12th
First start - June 19th
First drive - June 27th
Dyno tuned - July 8th
First autocross - July 12th
I purchased the kit first and then found a donor. It only took a day to strip the entire car down and then I spent the time while waiting for the kit to be done getting everything prepped and ready to drop in. I did the wiring harness, timing chains, manual brake conversion, painted brackets, and anything else I could think of to get ready for assembly.
The main assembly portion only took 3 full days but then I got hung up for a few days with a small wiring issue and an extra week or so trying to find seats that weren't backordered. It was painful staring at it for over a week not being able to take it for the first drive because I didn't have seats. There was some pretty intense temptation to take it for the first drive without seats but I decided that wasn't the best idea.
