MI builder here. If you are in southeast MI I highly recommend Jeff's Powder Coating in Monroe. He does great work. I had the frame Illusion blue $800, most of the odds and ends including the floor pan, fire wall, and seat back done for $200 then 400 for the wheels and side panels in grey. Total 1400 for everything.

I'll be out there! I am #347 09' Standard City SS/TC, I am almost road ready. I just started the process to register the Kit. I feel like I am going to run into problems with the bumpers and I signed the title over to the Scrap yard when I kicked the shell of my donor. But the donor was registered in my name as a salvage title. Maybe it won't be that bad. What did you guys do for bumpers, or were you able to get by without?

I DID NOT install my bumpers and had no issues. Maybe I got lucky. I titled it as a roadster so maybe that helped.

Same, except I installed the rear since I actually like it. The front rad support is technically designed to be collapsible. That's a bumper in my mind lol

Question on the TR54 form. Under part 1, Vehicle Identification Number, is the DF frame number supposed to go there or leave blank?

I'm in western MI (Grand Rapids area) and I'm considering building a Goblin with my son. Too many questions to ask right now, but one main hurdle seems to be MI SOS and getting the car titled/registered. As I understand it, MI requires a GLASS windscreen and bumpers among other things - how did you all get around that?

DF offers everything you need to make it street legal in MI

Take a peak at my build thread. I extended the tabs of the stock windshield bracket to make it straight, added a center support, and had glass cut to fit. If you're going track frame you can use the frame to mount a cut piece of glass.

Generally speaking though, it can depend on who inspects it. My second inspection by the actual state guy was "cool car man, where do you want your Vin sticker?" Lol.

Dis you get past the TR-54 without those fields checked? Did you buy the stock plexi windshield?

I must have this all backwards or you built your car crazy fast. I thought you couldn't start the TR-54 process until the vehicle was assembled so it could go through the inspection.

The state site says 8-10 weeks for an inspector to come out. So I had a police officer sign off my tr54 form and ill be turning everything in Friday. that gives me a deadline to get it assembled before he shows up. If you have to wait until your done building and then start the process it will take that much longer and i am impatient lol. I'm sure there is a chance that he will be able to look at it earlier than the 8 weeks but its a chance I'm willing to take.

Is a windshield a firm requirement? If you don't have one, then the rest of that equipment is not applicable and you ought to be good to go. Like WA has the option of wearing eye protection in lieu of a windshield for certain kinds of vehicles.

Ah gotcha. I've got some final bits and pieces to gather up then I should be complete-ish in a couple of weeks. Probably should get the paperwork moving then.

Firm in the sense of by the book - I think so. If I recall, when I did mine I tried looking for that in the legislation. I tried arguing that (no windshield = no wipers/sparyers and "its a wind deflector, not a wind shield") with my cop and they wouldn't sign off on that (ie check those boxes). I planned on a glass windshield regardless, but I didn't try turning in the TR-54 without those boxes checked. That's why I was curious if @Ghostknife turned his in without those boxes checked.

I checked off all the boxes except the one that dealt with trucks.

I didn’t check any boxes. I also only had the df windshield. I had the bumper just in case but didn’t install them. my guy was a car guy so that helped I’m sure. Feel free to reach out anytime
