I'm on my 3rd powersteering unit, and have extra gear boxes here. The electronics were dying on me from rain when I didn't have a body on my car. I was able to pic up used PS units from the local auto recycler for not too much money... $60 if I remember correctly.
I've got a whole power steering setup coming from ebay. I'm hoping I can just switch the gear box portion and be done. If I have to use the ebay control box, is it plug and play, or does it need to be programed to work with my car?
The Ebay controller won't work with the Cobalt EPS, only certain others that bolt into the Goblin. The EPS controller/Vue EPS stand alone other than using the power from the car but you will likely add in the 120ohm resistor into the communication wiring for the goblin.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have a cobalt setup coming from ebay. I was asking if the new black box from ebay would be plug and play with my goblin or if it needs to be programed at a dealership.
Anymore thoughts on how the water got in? How much time have you spent driving in the rain?
This makes me want to tear into mine and grease it up real good.

The only real rain this thing has been in was when we were flat towing it home from Arkansas. I'm baffled. The motor side has an o ring seal on it. The shaft side has a sealed bearing on it. The rust and water signs look like it came in from the motor side. I think I might put a thin layer of rtv on it to help seal it when I put it back together.
Success! I was able to get a bearing locally. I assembled everything and packed it with white lithium grease. She rotates smooth now, both ways! Put it all back in the car and went out for a test drive. Handles just like I remember.
