V1 Seb's Goblin #454 (2008 SS/TC donor) - Registered

S
SWMBO decided we needed to move, so it will be several weeks before I can actually work on the goblin again, but I finally got my wheels back from powder coat.

I think they look good, but the custom center cap I got from Etsy is a loser. It looks OK in the pic, but in person, when there's any real daylight on it, it kind of looks green and doesn't match the black wheel at all.

Finished up the day by trimming up the footwell cover and remounting everything.

I'm planning on doing a final scan before I cut out the window frame to make sure I get a good fit against the footwell cover.
Leaning toward using this style of locking seal (Trim-Lok) to hold the glass in, it looks like it's pretty common in boat applications, does anyone have any experience using it?

Do you have a picture of the front of the footwell cover showing where you trimmed? I tried to sit mine on today and it did not want to lay in place. Were these trimmed just for Autos from DF?

Finally got back to the hanger over the holiday break.
  • Seats are completed - slides are working properly and the wiring for the heaters is all buttoned up.
  • Hood modifications are complete
    • Epoxied in stainless screw eyes for attaching mesh with zip ties
    • Not in love with the mesh itself, but that will be easy to change in the future

    • Rubber bumpers attached to the footwell cover to support the middle of the hood

    • Final fitup and installation complete.

  • Next up was fixing my dash booboo
    • First, I epoxied on the metal brackets used to stabilize the lower portion, it was way too flexy after cutting the rest of the hood off
      48126
    • I used some bamboo skewers to gauge the distance to the windshield frame
      48125
    • Taped on the pieces previously cut off
      48127
    • And glassed in the back side
      48128
      48130
  • While that was curing, I made a cardboard template for the windshield, will be stopping by a glass shop this week

I got the dash reinstalled and checked the fit with the rubber window seal. Looks much better now, just need some bondo, primer and paint.

Got it back on the ground. Need to reset the ride height due to the newly added weight.

The glass shop is supposed to have my windshield done this week, so if all goes well we'll be back on the road this weekend

Took it for a ride this afternoon, super happy with it.
Clarity is great and it knocks down all the wind so I can wear a hat with no fear of losing it!
Finally time to start tuning and get switched over to corn juice!

Finished up a couple of minor items today. I think I'm done with modifications until winter.

Installed a suction cup rear view mirror:

Added 150lbs to each seat and reset the ride height:
48470

Sealed up some holes in the footwell cover and firewall with some pipe insulation:
48472

And then took it for another ride.
48473

It was ~95° and humid today, the pipe insulation definitely made a difference keeping some of the heat out. Temps are supposed to be in the low 80s next week, so looking forward to putting some miles on it then.

I don’t know there is anything to leak at that location. The bearing is just a simple sealed bearing. So not much more than a tiny bit of grease.

I think the bearing I used was 6008-2RS1.

Rockauto, under SAAB, Drivetrain, Axle Shaft Bearing, has the one I believe is correct. SKF sealed bearing 60082RS1VP23. This should be cross-referenced to see if it is the same as the no longer available bearing.

They don't carry the Buick Regal GS bearings anymore, which I know we're a direct replacement for the Cobalt bearing.
