Forgot to add, the above sequence probably goes to off whenever the ignition cuts off. I'm not sure but the fog lights probably don't come back on after the ignition is cut off and the restarted.

After rereading post 18, I don't think permanently grounding the switch wire will fix the problem since it will likely go to "off" when the car is cut off.

The phone charger might be easier to wire straight to the battery since it will pull little to no amperage and could stay hot all of the time.

I used my fog light circuit for my "a/c" (a 12v, windshield-suckered fan). I wired my own switched phone charger ports.

I think you should avoid using the fog light circuit for a phone charger. As was said, it will always be off when you start the car. One other minor annoyance is, it will turn off any time your high beams are on. A small thing,but a thing nonetheless.

That is true. It would be nice to be able to charge things without turning the car on.

I understand better now the purple wire situation. I was thinking more in terms of toggle switches and the newer ones sound like they function on/off and let the circuit turn them on off based on the button being pressed. My last project car was a '95 Integra so technology has advanced a little since then.

Not always sure the technology has advanced, but it sure has gotten more complicated.
