Need help insuring!

S
I was originally told by American Family they would not insure my Goblin but after telling my agent I would be keeping all my insurance coverage under one agent he was suddenly able to get me coverage.

I finished up my Goblin a couple weeks ago and thought I was in the home stretch and everything would be easy form here... I was wrong, Finding insurance was a complete nightmare. I called about 15 companies and got denied from all of them (Some of the common ones like Rally and American Modern didn't work for me since they wont insure in North Carolina).

I did end up getting coverage from State Farm, Liability only though... seems like it all depends who you talk to but I recommend for anyone having issues finding insurance, just go to your local State Farm and talk to an Agent. I have two State Farms near me and both were willing to work with me

I walked into my local State Farm agent's office and talked with the agent. I had no recent policy with them, only years prior policy with different agent for State Farm. Showed them pictures, described the build, then they worked with their underwriter and got it insured. Mine is on an agreed value policy, I think that's what they called it. Small town main street insurance office and I had checked pricing for house/other cars insurance with that agent multiple times previously.

My process for my Super Stalker was very similar to this; and is also with State Farm. i did have to do some homework and find out what "similar" cars were being insured for and provide specific coverage amounts and what the others were paying. Luckily, Caterham's are still in production and it was not too hard to get that info in a single afternoon from the Locost forums. Also, like many said go see the individual agent- they have a lot more ability to engage versus a call center.

My policy is also an agreed value policy (with a pretty large figure due to the cost of the Caterham's) , it provides 4 track days each Calendar year, 3000 miles of driving 1 April thru 1 Oct and cannot be driven to work. I also had to keep the agent updated on the status because it was not fully painted when I first insured it. Just this week they got their updated photos and i am planning on "weather permitting" to actually take the car to the agent and give him a ride before my driving season is over on 1 Oct. Still given the amount of coverage and all the policy was REALLY cheap compared to my F350 or Saturn Sky.

Just got a quote back from Kelsey @ Rally. $273/year through American Modern. I told her the value of the car was $15,000 and I would drive it 1000 miles per year or less.

I’m about double. I’m in Michigan which is stupid high. I have mine set at $27,000 insured and 1000 miles plus the $50 rider so I can drive it to work

Maybe Im ambitious, but I plan on driving the crap out of my build. Im not sure 1000 miles would cut it.
I drove 2000, 1500, now 1000 this year. Not primary transportation, just a toy. Like a motorcycle. Rain, snow, hot or cold will slow you down.

in some ways I wish I could or would drive it more, but in others, I’m good with how much I drive it.

I had to ease off driving mine to stay under the 6k miles I’m allotted each year. I drive mine EVERY chance I get, much to my son’s excitement and wife’s char grin.

I've got about 5400 miles on mine in three driving seasons ... it stays in the garage from mid-November through April. I work from home about 50% of the time, but I drive it to work whenever possible, and anywhere else I need to go as well. I should add that my commute is 11 miles one way, and I never need to drive on the highway.

Mines through State Farm and its called an assembled car on my policy. Not sure if that help you or not. By the way mine cost me just $56 per month full coverage. Up to $19,000.00

Do you have a mileage limit?

Mileage limits is for if you have multi cars and are a single driver household. However I have 4 vehicles. So I use one as my daily driver and the others as back ups. So they do ask you if you put less than 12000 miles a year on it and I tell them yes. My daily driver is a 2019 truck that I bought new and now has 151000 miles on it. They charge me more for that one. My Harley, Goblin, and Toyota are a lot less because I don't use them as much. I will be adding to my cars and truck collection soon and at that point I might look into a collect type insurance for them, the cost as I have been told would go down more. Hope this helped some!

BY the way I noticed you live in Huntsville, I am leaving this weekend to go to my cabin. I am taking my Goblin with me. I love riding around the mountains up there near the Smoky Mountains. Yours finished ? If so come on up there and ride!

I can’t even get him to drive north for 25 miles to drive great roads.
Man, don't I know it. Silly kids stuff and my wife's home project keeps me busy on the days that are nice to go drive. I had to block off days about half a year in advance to get out to Goblinfest 2023. That and my oldest son got hyped up about going to it, that helped out greatly.

Gtstory is right. I doubt I'm making it all the way to Gatlinburg even though that's some fun driving too.
