4mm steel rivnuts are commonly used by many builders for attaching the aluminum panels. These are available from multiple places, which most times includes the rivnut gun and arbors. Getting an extra 4mm arbor or two would be a good idea, as these do wear out quickly.

I used M4 rivnuts for the firewall since I thought I might want to be able to remove it easily. Not sure if there is any reason to expect to remove the other panels very often. Rivnuts need a fairly large hole so I went with the smallest I could get and only where I had a real reason to expect to need to disassemble. I used aluminum since there have been reports in here of stripping small rivnut tools when using smaller steel ones. Sourced from EBAY.

I also used M4 Rivnuts for the tunnel cover, firewall and the side panels. I got M4 nuts, lock washers and nylon washers to go along with it. I had to buy a specific M4 die for the Rivnut tool as the one I used didn't go that low. I'm hoping that changing the oil filter on the LSJ will be easier by removing the passenger firewall. It's pretty tight with it on. Per GTStory's recommendation, I used Aluminum inserts. I'm not sure if the tool would have handled the steel ones.

I have a bunch of steel Rivnuts that I can mail you if you want to try them, I had bought them and then used Aluminum instead. PM me if your interested.

I'm right behind these guys. Just bought a ton of M4 rivnuts for our build. One thing I QUICKLY noticed with my larger Asto 1442 tool it was way too much for the smaller rivnuts. Not only was it too large and awkward for some spots, but I had managed to pull the threads out of the rivnuts on my test pieces. Some adjusting fixed that, but it was still awkward to use. I bought the smaller grip version (Astro Pneumatic Tool 1443B) and like it much better when I've been using it on my test pieces. I'd really like to try some of these out on some test tubing pieces before putting them on my car. Just don't want to have it go wrong and then have to drill it out and now the back side it rattling around inside my frame.
