Hey everyone!

Figured i'd go ahead and start a build thread... I don't have a donor, and i haven't ordered the frame yet (Edit 6/23 , Frame is now ordered! #333) ... So LOTS of progress already! :) hahaha!

My name is John, and i live in Knoxville, TN...

Basically right now i am just in the planning stages for what i feel will be a very special (at least to me) build... I am an automotive/motorcycle fabricator and cnc/cam designer/programmer/machinist. I've been involved in designing and manufacturing a lot of various components for things through the years (mostly motorcycle related)... even had some of my creations featured at SEMA.... and my day job is a fabricator for a high-end auto shop here in Knoxville. so i am no stranger to making things work well, but also having them be extremely nice looking... i plan to do my own turbo/exhaust/intake/etc fabrication, as well as significantly modifying other areas of things also.

I am an avid autocrosser (On the board of the East Tennessee Region SCCA), and want to get way more into Time Trial events and Track Days, with maybe a Hillclimb or two thrown in. Currently i am doing my car-fun-stuff in a 2019 Camaro, but its expensive and if i ball it up on course, it'd suck even worse... so i'm wanting something that can be fairly inexpensive to run compared to the Camaro... and this little car looks like a hell of a lot of fun! Of course i also live a very short drive from the Dragon/US129... So i spend a significant amount of time on some great roads as well, so any "track toy" needed to be street legal as well. As some know, for SCCA Autocross, the car falls into E-Modified... I've submitted the request a while back, and just received confirmation this morning that the car is now eligible and classed in SCCA Time Trials in the Max category! :) So that is great news!

I'm planning some really fun things for this car... different aero, some frame additions, etc... I can't wait to get it started! Hope to be able to update this soon with actual build-stuff... hahaa!

Welcome! I will be curious to see how you build yours; your use case seems similar to mine. I presume you're going with a track frame with consideration for a potential hillclimb?

Yes, definitely going with the extended track frame (mostly for room for a lower and more laid-back seating position) , with a few planned mods, but i won't know for sure until the chassis arrives.

I will likely be adding some bars for safety, as well as doing some frame additions for relocating a few things.

Right now i'm trying to decide to buy a whole donor or just buy it piece by piece. Also, displacement rules in TT will nail me for having a 2.4, whereas the 2.0L would not be as harsh to me... so i'm wanting to find a 2.0 ....

I'm anxious to get going on it :)

Thanks! I'm looking forward to doing a few cool things with it when the time comes ;)

In fact, my plans have changed ever so slightly after discussing a few things privately with a certain member here... Needless to say, it is likely going to be a bit more bonkers than i had even originally planned. o_O

So for now, still doing some planning, taking notes... and will hopefully order the chassis soon

Yay! The frame is ordered (#333) , and the plans are underway! :) I was thinking i'd do a lot of this at the shop i work at, but i think it'd be a lot of fun to do this at home, and maybe also do some videos on the progress or how i do certain things fabrication-wise. So, I'm planning to outfit my garage at home while i wait for the chassis.... lol!

So i guess the "Garage Build" will come first. I'll post up about that later when i can get some pics this weekend or so of it as-is.

Well most of us would just call your "Garage Build" by another name - garage porn........
Take lots of pictures........... :)
When my garage grows up, it wants to be just like yours!

Hah! I wouldn't go THAT far... The home garage is going to be basic, with a few neat things... the "gotcha" to that is my CNC machine i keep at work, and the CNC plasma cutter and 3D printer we have there.... Those things maaaay come in handy also.

I've built some amazing 2-wheeled creations in the past though with not much more than a welder, an angle grinder, a drill press, a bandsaw, and a belt sander... My angle grinder is easily by far the most useful tool i have, and even at work, i still operate with a few very basic things aside from what i already listed... The home shop will have some versions of all of the basic things... space is an issue, as its a basic 2 car garage, although thankfully a few feet deeper than wide, and it still has to house my GF's car in the evenings... so i can't just fill it up with things. Otherwise i think i'd put in a small lift or something also. hahah!
