Since the upgraded rear subframe/suspension are starting to be delivered, I figured we need a thread for install, questions, tips, tricks and such.

I painted everything yesterday and today was install time. Probably a solid 6 hours to check parts inventory, mock up and install. Built the knuckles backwards, a few times so that took time, but referred to pictures here and got it right. On SC models, the intercooler pump and bracket have to be removed, but thats about it on mods. Putting the subframe up was easy, aligning all the holes was a PITA. Overall, look at the pics and get after it.

tomorrow or sat I’ll align it and go for a test drive.

Seriously, the 4 subframe bolts will be the same as old. The control arm bolts should be the same as the front control arms.

On SC models, the intercooler pump and bracket have to be removed, but thats about it on mods.

Remove the bracket for the install, or does the new subframe interfere with the bracket on the engine? As in, do I need to plan on relocating my ic pump?

Bracket interfere with the subframe. it has to be removed and not put back on. The pump straps to the frame. Df provides you with clamps. You‘ll see it when you get there. 4 bolts and the pump and bracket are out of your way.

I aligned the goblin today. Thanks SF overlords for slotting the upright bracket so you can actually adjust camber.

quick test drive was highly noticeable on the differences. No more rear bump steering. No more ass end shake or shimmy. No squirrelliness when on the brakes from high speed. Somehow return to center is better. Understeer in high speed corners is gone and turns are very smooth. Can’t wait to get it to autocross and track soon.

Geometry improvements - no more pro-squat and better camber gain, along with the loss of rear bump steer as you stated - makes for a different animal that you've confirmed! Some more fine tuning and balance for understeer/oversteer will have you looking at those pesky Miatas in your rear view mirror at autoX!

Once one of us with an F40 get one I’d say we share the notes here? They told me mine shipped today so I’ll mock up next week when it shows and we can come up with some type of front trans bracket as Lonny mentioned earlier today.

I had no idea how DF wanted me to use the 4 clamps to strap it down so I cut that bracket above the upper u portion of the lower bracket, drilled 2 holes and mounted the pump there since you only need to mount it an inch or two above the original location.

Had an extra hour today so I started fitting the subframe in chassis with the F40. I’ll start by cutting off the front trans bracket so I can get subframe bolted in chassis and go from there. More to come.

One picture of overall fitment which is good. Clearances are tight but everything clears. The suspension will need to be installed in subframe first due to how close bolts are to transmission once bolted up to drivetrain.
only had to use a ratchet strap on last subframe bolt which was the passenger rear. Moved very easily and went right in.

Had to completely cut off front trans bracket. Here is version 1 of rear trans bracket. Once complete I will put in cad and share for anyone wanting it. More to come

Clearance at the front? That is what I was seeing as the place for possible interference.

Front mount that comes on the tubular subframe has to be cut off. I will design a mount that will tackle that issue as well. Once done I’ll share both designs, cad files or whatever y’all need. Happy to help
