Hi everyone,
Happy New Year!!
Figured I'd introduce myself, my name is DJ and I live in South Florida and I am very exited to be part of this group.
I placed my order yesterday 12/31/20 to lock in the current prices and have secured chassis #286. This will definitely be a fun project, I do not have a donor car yet and have been searching for one the past few weeks. I am currently thinking to just go with a base 2.2L 5 speed, there are plenty of these around so if I do mess up the engine by pushing it to hard it should be a relatively cheap / fast fix.
I did have a 97 cavalier z24 back in 2004-2007, I ended up doing a 2.2L ecotec swap replacing the cast iron 2.4L. That car at the time weighed about 2,200 with driver aftersome a lot of weight reduction. I did have a nice size turbo on it with stock internals using a megasquirt for fuel management. I am very existed to see what these motors can do on a goblin.
So to start my build I have a todo list at the moment, but not pictures yet. I know I have plenty of time for most of this stuff but I figure I have the time now to prepare a little.
1. Thank my wife for allowing me to start this project
2. Source a decent donor 2.2L 5 Speed (Manual)
3. Start cleaning out the garage to make space for this new project.
4. Find a decent local paint shop and plan out the color scheme
5. Study the registration process for Florida
6. Start figuring out what parts I need to source that are not included with the donor car (e-brake cable)
7. Start researching what is involved for the wiring harness modifications.
8. ??
The goal at this time is to build a decent looking / drivable NA car and get it registered for street use as fast as possible. Eventually it will get a turbo which is when the real fun will being. I know my self and I need to have a working car to keep me motivated, I do not what to get stuck in a never ending project where the car never sees the street.
Thanks in advance for your help
