Extra Parking Brake?

In search of an extra parking brake and all related hardware. Trying to get inspected here soon and hear that is a requirement in TX. Feel free to DM me if you have one available or have a link for a solid replacement. TY in advance

Technically it is in the law to have one but in the ASE inspector form, it is not something that they are to look for or report on. Since this is the only time someone will have eyes on your car besides the safety inspection, you might be able to get all the registration work done, then hunt down the parking brake kit off the critical timeline. I removed my windshield during the ASE inspection so they could not write me up for not having wipers. Magically it got added after getting a title as a aftermarket mod to reduce insect ingestion.

By extra parking brake are you talking handle or everything pulled from a Cobalt or everything including the appropriate calipers normally sourced from DF? Not going to be many (or likely any) of the last.

Everyting like, the handle and cables, and whatever is needed to connect it to the brake caliper (IDK exactly how this works). I have reached out to DF to see if they have one lying around they would be willing to part with.

Parking Brake Kit – DF Kit Car brake caliper ends.

There are aftermarket handles and cables that can be made to work.

Rockauto has the stock cables, Ebay has the handles but they aren't cheap, that would leave you making the tubes which people have done in different ways.

So I already have the parking brake kit, I think that part should be good. I just need the cables/tubes and handle then.

This is another option that you can do instead of the stock cables/tubes, but you will still need the handle.
I went with the summit kit after seeing Wallace58's build. I do have the stock tubes and cables. you can have them if you want to pay for shipping (might be expensive).

I am more inclined to go that route vs the $100 from summit. So you have everything needed besides the handle, correct?

To get really technical, you also need a red light to come on when the park brake is engaged, for state inspection (that’s basically going away next year).

There’s a switch that trips ground when the handle is pulled. You can easily run a wire to a led on the dash to make it all work

Did the stock cobalt wire go from the handle to the BCM somewhere? It would be nice to get it hooked back up in the original spot, then the brake light on the cluster would function correctly?

Yes it did and has to be used when when trying to calibrate a brake switch on the 08 and newer cobalts.

brake light still will not function properly because of no abs. There’s codes for brake light to be on because abs light is on.

Ok thanks. I had DF do the wiring harness service on mine, I guess they removed it in the thinning process, so I'll have to track it down.

Thanks to reading through @Rttoys build log, I also added the parking brake light to my wiring. If I remember correctly, the parking brake has a microswitch on the handle that completes the circuit to ground. A light blue wire comes off the BCM, goes to the handle, loops back to the dash to a light, gets grounded to the frame.
