V1 First Start...bad head gasket

A few questions.

Why does holding the brakes in gear not work? Mine spins even if the wheels can't. I don't get it. I have an LSD if that makes a difference.

How does the J 38122-A even work? https://www.freedomracing.com/camshaft-pulley-harmonic-balancer-holder-j-38122-a.html

I could use the fork looking thing to screw into my ATI damper if it had holes instead of pins. That would get it off, but I need to immobilize it to get it back on too. Getting something like this would be perfect, but I can't find one for the ecotec

it says an SS cobalt will work (2.0 or 2.4). I believe the SS's have a half inch (radius) bigger flywheel and clutch. I'm running the kit that allows an SS clutch on a 2.2, so I think this will work.

Correction. It must work for all models because the starters aren't different.

"the starters aren't different." In their mechanical function and fitment I believe this is correct but I believe the earlier models used a different solenoid which used a nut and stud to attach the lg purple "start" wire, later models used a single pole weatherpak connector. A minor wiring difference to be aware of.
I do not know when the change was made and said change may predate the Cobalt as Eco-Tec motors go back to 03 or maybe earlier?

Sure, but all I was saying was dimensionally. This takes place of the starter to lock the flywheel in place

I'm far from a transaxle expert, but for a FR setup with a M/T, if it's in gear, both wheels aren't spinning, and you can turn the crank I think this would imply you're slipping at the clutch. How confident are you in the condition if your clutch?

That was my thought immediately too, but I know the clutch is fine. Its new, and whatever ZZP offers as the highest torque handing for the 2.2. I did only try it in 1st, not 5th, but I was able to turn it with one finger either way. Seemed odd. But yeah it was holding all the power I could throw at it prior to tear down

Wait...what? You can turn the crank w/ one finger?? I can't be reading that correctly.

Y'all had me all paranoid so I put the tires back on and put it in first and rolled it and the engine turns. So something else it going on

I suspect there is a certain level of rotational forces involved in the function of an LSD? Maybe it doesn't actually load the clutches without being in motion? Even 2 RPM is waaaay more motion than 0 RPM.
