Help Identifying Similar-driving Race or High Performance Production Car

Hi, All. New to the forum. Recently purchase an already-built Goblin.

Before I get too crazy driving it in real-life, I’m trying to identify a similar-driving car in Assetto Corsa, so I can sharpen my mid-engine driving skills in the simulator rig first.

Any ideas on a similar-ish driving mid-engine car in Assetto Corsa?

Thinking I’ll try: Mid-engine high performance production car or race car. With weight and power to weight. Turn off all driver aids, traction control, abs, etc. off. Maybe a Porsche of some sort.

Your thoughts welcome.

For sake of finding a similar mid-engine production or race car, my car’s basic info is: Weighs 1470 lbs. Dyno’s 385 hp at wheels. 100 tread wear tires; 235 width fronts, 275 width rears.

Welcome.
Rigs are cool. You know that you can drive your car on the like a normal human being while still getting seat time? Right?
But to answer your question, Ariel Atom. Then, if you want more of a challenge, try the Atom V8. From what I read.

It's been a while since I've driven anything virtual but my go-to in Forza was always the Lotus 2 Eleven. If Assetto Corsa is true to the physical car you'll probably be down on power but with better aero, but I can't think of anything else that comes closer. I think weight is the hardest spec to find something close.

edit: this is based off a quick search that indicates AC has the Lotus but no Ariel Atom

I saw it on youtube as a mod. I just assume everyone mods everything

Thank you very much!

Yes, yes of course I’m driving my Goblin around like a normal human. I just don’t want to rip too much until I get a better feel for the car and surface streets aren’t the place for really ripping’ anyway. Along with the sim, I intend to sign up for skills events and autocross.

Thank you again! I’ll try the Lotus 2 Eleven and Ariel Atom in the sim.

I think you're coming from the right place in making mistakes in a SIM rather than in the Goblin, and I'm a huge advocate for safety. However, just take what you learn on a SIM with a grain of salt. The most volatile and crash-prone drivers I've had all had a SIM-focused background. I believe it fosters an inflated level of confidence, expectation of pace, and an unhealthy lack of fear in risk of crashing. I have nothing against SIM's, SIM racing, or the idea that it can help improve driving ability, but I don't think it is a good place to foster safe drivers.

I would consider focusing on signing up for a car control clinic, autocrosses or track days, and getting an instructor. Road courses, and more specifically AutoX's, are the safest places to learn car control... I've lost track of how many off-roading excursions I've had on track; most tracks are designed with safe run offs. It's really an awesome community that is extremely beginner friendly, and we LOVE seeing people signing up for an instructor in beginner group at their first track day/AutoX to avoid learning bad habits. It's a judgement-free zone, as we all remember how bad we were when we first started haha.

Yes, yes of course I’m not only going to rely on sim practice.

My evil plan is street driving + sim driving + real-life skills events (with instructor, then without) + autocross. All of it, not just the sim!!!

That way I’m as prepared and safe as possible.

Try the KTM Xbow, and make sure all the assists are off. It's about the closest thing I've found.

Keep in mind, the goblin is not *generally* a 500 hp supercar. It's closer to a gokart. You want light weight, not necessarily big power.
