Hello All,
My name is Michael, nickname is Buddy. Mid-Michigan (Bay City area) is my home area and current location. I am in the beginning stages of my Goblin journey. I came across the Goblin website years ago while looking for alternative but similar, more affordable vehicles to the Ariel Atom. Now that I'm fortunate enough to have an empty pole barn (we bought our first home last year), I've decided to pull the trigger on a project I've been looking forward to for years. Today I secured my donor car (2009 2.2L manual, 99k miles) in an auction, and should be picking up the donor this week, along with ordering my kit.
While I do not have a ton of hands-on experience working on vehicles myself, my Dad has been a gearhead his whole life. I am spoiled by the fact that he has a hoist in his personal garage, which is used to perform most of our own vehicle maintenance. When I was ~19, I turned 4 non-running Honda Sprees into 2 functional Sprees, which my wife (then girlfriend) and I had a blast putzing around town on. The next logical step was to get a motorcycle someday. As time has gone on, we have both agreed that the fun of a motorcycle wasn't worth the increased inherent risk. We're viewing the Goblin as a (hopefully) safer, slightly-more-practical, fun-to-drive vehicle.
I am a controls engineer turned software developer for a company that makes machines for testing and assembling automotive parts. I am looking forward to getting more hands-on experience with the mechanical side of a vehicle. I struggle with patience sometimes, so this project will probably be the greatest test of that.
Thank you for reading,
Buddy
