V1 Rttoys’s track- ‘06 ss/sc #184

I used a really thick noodle from the dollar store. I had to shave the portion that is on top down by half and the sides kind of just filled in. I used zip ties to hold it all down. Did my first drive with it today. About 30 minutes worth. It made a difference.

Awesome news. I will try the same. Just wondering, what was your coolant temperature when you drove?

I tested with and without the foot cover. I like the increases air flow with the foot cover, but i can tell the difference when the thermostat opens it just get a lot hot air flow :) I ended up installing the foot cover again. Will test your set up next.

I tried to watch temps while running down the road, but they were hard to see. Overall, I don’t believe it made a difference. The volume of coolant in the goblin radiator is double the volume of the cobalt, so I don’t suspect any cooling issues.

Joebob
Joebob was the one I was thinking of. He has his pretty sorted out in the comfort department.

You have probably only use $.49 worth. stash it and we will find more uses for it. :p
After I sealed the front off, I found it just comes in the sides and burns your outside knee. Running my side panels up to and sealing against the hood, solved that problem for me. I still get heat rolling back from the engine behind me but it is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer with the front blocked off completely. With the DF side panels and the full footwell cover....and your pool noodle between the footwell cover and hood, I think you could accomplish the same thing.

VERY NICE! Exactly what I was wanting to do. Once the glue has set on what I have now I will get the sides folded down.
WOW! I do love a high tech solution! But the low tech solutions win my heart every time! (Like the "camping canopy" install that salvaged Sky Lab. Google it!)
D4mn You're Good! (Pool Noodles rule!) Looks Great!

What lamps do you use and where did you get the mounts? I need something better for the short days....
The headlights are a combination of 2 different ones I pieced together and made a mount for. I got them on carid.com, but that was 4 years ago. I’m not even sure they exist anymore.
light parts numbers are: Lumen headlights N218X-2-SP and CM

Hmm, and would you say the lamps are doing a good job or just blinding the oncoming traffic?

I feel like some of those LEDs are not doing a good job. They make a lot of light, but they blind so badly. We have a lot guys with pickups driving around. You see them 5 miles away, but the light is just all over the place.

I would love to have something like a spotlight, oriented on the street.

They blind people if adjusted out like normal, so I have the “low beams” (that are a spotlight) pointed down to about 4-6’ in front of the car. The “high beams” are flood type that are adjusted like normal. Lows are decent, but nothing to write home anbout and highs you can see, but direct and such. When no one is around on the backroads, I hold the lever in to have both on at the same time and it works pretty good, for what it is. Would recommend real headlights though.

Seems like they are pretty similar to the once I have at the moment. What I can tell from the infos I have, those ones are on my Goblin. Maybe they work out better once I make an adjustable mount ?!? Not sure. https://genssi.com/5-75-5-3-4-inch-led-chrome-projector-headlights-round-set/

Maybe it's just Floridians :D Not sure.

So a lot has happened over the last year. I added a rear sway bar, the stock cobalt wing, a rear defuser and front splitter, plus have changed the alignment probably 10 times or better. The goblin drives really well now.

The coolest mod I have made are my wheels. I was running 245’s all the way around on 7.5” wide wheels. This pushed the tires in a bit, but still did well on the street and ok at autocross. I needed more traction at autocross but going wider on tires is not going to happen on 7.5” wide wheels. Soooooooo off to search for wider wheels. There’s a lot of options on different bolt patterns, but wanted to keep the stock setup, which is hard to come by. i ended up on Forgestar website and had them make custom wheels for me. here are the specs:

Forgestar F14
semi concave
matte black
17x9
65.1 hub
5x110mm
backspace +10
weight 23#

I transferred the R888R 245’s to the front and put R888R 275s on the rear.

This has really up’d the traction on the goblin. So far a great mix for street and track. View attachment 29483

So ...r888r, 245 front and 275 rear, but on what sidewall for each? Probably a 275/40/17, but same in a 245/40 or a 245/45?

Sorry. I’ll be more specific.
For the last 3ish years, I have been using:
245/40-17 front r888r
275/40-17 rear r888r

I just changed to 235/40-17 front and planning on going to 255/40-17 rear, when they wear out. Also, depending on if we stay in EM or switch to XU, will depend on what my next tires will be. There’s some other great tires out there, but they start to get spendy. I really like the r888r especially for the price point and availability.

Why downsize? Do you think it will give you better traction. I’m running 255/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear

With being so light, less tire will heat up faster, which is one thing we need for autocross outside of summertime. Plus being light, you are not “pushing down” the tires at all, so tire width to wheel width is critical. I can change tires cheaper than wheels :D with our cars, it’s a delicate balance. I don’t have the funds to just try every size and compound, but with the few I have tried so far and seeing results from the other Houston goblin peeps, plus you guys here on the forum, it all goes into my data and research. There will never be a perfect setup for every occasion, but I’m really happy with what I have at the moment. Hopefully these small improvements will make it better.

Going from 245/40 to 235/40 off of Toyo specs, loses 2# per tire, but barely changes dimensions, while still fitting great on my 9” wheel. On the rear changing from 275 to 255 will also lose 2# each tire but fit better on my 9” wheel. Looking at heat marks on the rear, you can see the contact patch isn’t as big as I would like on the 275’s without really dropping air pressure lower than I like (down to 15psi rear). going to 255 should correct this in some ways. Hell, 255 all around is probably the best fit to be honest, though, for my 9” wheels.

"Vastly" may be subjective.

Reading this, I would be more comfortable street driving mostly on the r888r. There's a lot of opinions floating around on tires, and lots of "choose this" with strong "I love these", but that doesn't help someone like myself who is in the market for my first set of goblin tires. What is in the article and how RT and Ross describe their experiences, its priceless.
