Tossing around the idea of getting a goblin. I have been thinking abiut ine of the for years now, but just now getting to the finacial point to having another fun toy. Guestion is buy a prebuilt or build it myself. I have built other vehicles anf engines and enjoy it, but thinking about it from the money side. Cheaper to build or buy built? And who has a completed manual either SC/TC car for sale?

I enjoyed building mine as much as I do driving it. If I did it again I would still choose to build it. The TC ones seem to sell in that $20k-$25k range which is about what I'm into mine to build it. These seem to be close to break even cars cost wise as long as the used toy market doesn't crash. Lately there have been some built cars or partially completed kits that I think were cheaper than if you purchased a kit. I like the idea of building, where I know everything that was done and I get to make all the decisions on what goes into it. Either way that you go these cars are a ton of fun. The classified section on the forum and the Goblin FB groups are the two places I usually see them for sale. Good luck and hopefully we can welcome you to the club.

Thank you for the information. I also enjoy knowing t was done right, but time and money play a factor these days also. I will be sure to keep and eye on the fourms and FB pages. Thanks again.

You can definitely buy a Goblin more cheaply than building one these days...but you'll never be able to look at someone and say...I built this.

The main thing that buying a completed Goblin provides is instant driving! But(there is ALWAYS a BUT) you probably will not save any money.(Bummer?, not IMO) Why? Well unless the builder was actually channeling your "driver spirit", I'd bet that in a very short time you will be modifying said unit to fit your wants. This is one of the best points about a Goblin, they are very changeable! Tally Ho!

I'd say it's definitely cheaper to buy one already built, especially if you're looking at a more "high end" build with a TC/SC. Most of the guys on here will have $25k or more into them, and they regularly sell around $20k. mine will likely be for sale soon when the weather gets a little nicer here in Missouri. I just don't drive it as much as I thought I would.

I think the question of buy vs build really comes down to if you WANT to build it. For me, building was the fun part. The thought of buying one already built never even crossed my mind, as building it was the whole point. But there are tons of people who aren't interested, and just want a ridiculously fast and unique car. If that's the case, definitely buy. Cheaper, and will save a ton of time.

If you have to ask yourself this question, then you need to ask if you want to own/drive a Goblin or do you want to build/drive a Goblin. The own/drive takes less commitment, but does require your attention - these are not 'factory' cars and do need some 'care and feeding', even if it is just for nice to haves or upgrades. The build/drive is a much greater commitment and could (usually) challenge your mechanical and electrical skills - assuming you have these already. Those who don't, get the chance to learn new skills and eventually end up with a nice set of tools. :D
