V1 Transmission fluid

J
Been looking around trying to figure out what food goes in the F35 manual transmission and have seen some conflicting info. From what I'm seeing, F23 takes ATF and F35 gear oil? What's everyone putting in there?
Getting so close to me first ride!!

I just went down this rabbit hole and GM doesn't do the best job defining what fluid goes in what, at least for F35 SS/TC (all the parts catalogues wouldn't direct me to a PN).

My FSM says the base model takes ATF and the F35/MU3 takes 88862472, instead of listing a general purpose spec of lubricant (ie: 75-90 GL-4) like most cars do.

This thread was the most accurate source I could find, other than recommending GL-5 in a gearbox.. do not put GL-5 in a gearbox ever.

88862472 was pretty unobtainable unless you spend an absurd amount of money, and it seems that 19351859 replaced 88862472 (although some parts catalogues say otherwise). 88862472 is also the same as ACDELCO 104104.

2010 service manual calls for Dexron VI (GM part# 88861003). I’m sure the GM part # has been superseded.
I need to look back at the service manual again. I might have mixed up the transmission codes between the F23 and F35 when I checked the service manual.

Owner manual for 2010 does call for GM 88862472. That does seem to match the cross references/superseded numbers duthehustle93 listed.

I also recall the consensus that the F35 takes gear oil and is picky (Redline MT-90 being the fluid of choice), and the F23 takes ATF. Dex III was the spec at the beginning of Cobalt production, not sure if Dex VI came about before the end of Cobalt production but it's supposed to supersede all Dex III applications. I ran MT-90 in my F35 and run Valvoline Dex VI in my F23 now.

Thanks all for the info. Seems to not have a definitive answer. I grabbed some synthetic red line manual transmission fluid and threw it in for now until I get my hands on some MT90.

Okay so I’m bringing this back up. I had to pull my trans again. It’s a LSD F35. I know it has atf in it. I have been running it for years with no issues. I came back to this thread and all the part numbers are pulling up gear oil. So now I’m confused. I believe the SS/SC F35 run gear lube while the SS/TC F35 run atf. Am I correct. If so does someone have the correct part number

Well now I’m worried. I was looking for the part number for the fluid. I’ve ran that ATF for 4 years now. I hope I haven’t damaged my trans. It drives and shifts fine. I could have sworn there was a difference and it was posted here. Now I’m not sure what to do.

If you have not had any issues, then it's probably a good bet that nothing is hurt. But if you do decide to switch oil types, drain the ATF, flush at least once with gear oil (fill, rotate the gear box to circulate), then drain and refill again with gear oil. Mixing the ATF and gear oil is probably not a good idea.
