V1 Travis B's Track goblin #479 - 08 SS

Markm
Did the back end of the explorer go down? Doesn’t look like it did very much if at all. It’ll sway bad if you don’t have enough tongue weight.

Mine is 14’ and I need it a tad forward to be correct. You’ll probably need it all the way forward on a 12’.

fun fact:
the first time Brett and I attended goblinfest, I towed my goblin in my travel trailer. Brett used my 14’ utility trailer with his suv. We traveled together for the trip. Since I only run 70-75 with the travel trailer, when we got separated once for some reason, Brett said he would catch up as we went ahead. We got to Arkansas and during some casual talking he said the trailer would sway on him here and there. I have never had this problem no mater what speed I towed the goblin at. Weird. One of those middle of the night “ahhh haaa” moments. Basically, if he got over 80 the rear wing on his goblin would push down the back of the trailer, unload the tongue and start to sway. Mine doesn’t have a wing like his does, so no sway.

So you think just go all the way forward more. Only have another 8-12 in available and remove the wing? I might need to back it on wanted to not do that if I didn't have to.

Ya 80 is wild, I plan on 65.

I'll test it out again. Thanks everyone for the insight. If that doesn't work I'll have to back it in. Wanted to grab a 14-16ft for the axle distance from the front but this 12' was a steal so jumped on it .

Ya. I’d move it all the way up and see how it feels. If it’s too much just move it back. It took a while to get mine at a good spot on the trailer. When I did I used spray paint to mark where I want the front wheel.

I’m surprised that trailer is dual axle. That’s a lot of axles for a 12’ trailer. 7k gvw, the trailer probably weighs 600#? That’s 6400# carry capacity daaaaannnnggg. Thinking about it, max tire pressure on those tires is probably 50-60psi. I’d probably run them around 25-30 at most to smooth it out as much as possible.

if you really want to experiment, remove the front wheels and see how it tows. Bring tire pressure back up to max though. Lots of options for that trailer.

Ya it had an axle, brakes, new decking added like 2 years ago. Title in hand $1100 I had to. I'll bring it all the way forward and see. I mean 10% tongue weight is only 230-250lb. If I stand on the rear hitch the explorer barely moves and I'm 220.

I’d figure somewhere near the gas tank, maybe a hair past it? This is how mine weighs out after I balanced it.

Ok I'll throw it all the way forward and if I need to I'll add a tongue box. Also don't have the spare mount that'll be another 40ish with the wheel/tire

-shrugs shoulder- I just turned the spring adjusters here and there and bam

unfortunately it’s probably off at the moment. I did all this before replacing the rear subframe. I’ll adjust it again soon, when I’m done modifying for a bit.

Ended up backing the car on and got back to level. Rear wheel at about the 2ft mark and front wheel around 10ft. Thanks for the help everyone, gonna grab a set of race ramps through summit, too old to keep track of 2x4s. Cart already has the SF1 jacket and SA2020 helmet and arm restraints.
