I will definitely update this thread when we get it all figured out.
It’s stupid. I was told because it’s based off of a Coblat they won’t insure it because they don’t insure them. If it was based off of a Camaro, mustang or something like that they would have no issue insuring it

Lonny
I don't know why they would be hesitant to insure a Goblin, I can't think of any that have ever been in an accident. :p

Try Great Florida Insurance through progressive 550 a year no mileage limit if you live in Florida I have a contact person , Or maybe she can tell you how to get insurance through them in your state.

Been chasing a random electrical issue. Radiator fan is not coming on. Got in the car up to 225° and the fan never came on.

During testing I noticed that I have continuity between the negative and positive on the radiator fan. If I'm reading the interwebs correctly, that means the fan is bad. This is with the fan fully disconnected.

Can anyone verify?

Thanks,

Brett

Brett
Hook up the fan to 12V source to see if it will come on, after disconnecting from the chassis harness so you don't backfeed the 12V somewhere it may not belong.
It spins. My electrical troubleshooting leaves a little to be desired.

You and Jason suggested the same thing and it does work.

It can have continuity through the connectors because of how everything works with computer, relays and such. You need to see 12v and ground at the connector, but it’s best to use a tech2 to command the fan on and measure voltage.

I’m not totally sure how the ECM turns the fans on based upon engine coolant temps but the stock tc tune turns on at 55% at 221 degrees, 85% at 225 and 89% at 228. How that works in a stock configuration with 2 fans and simple relays I can’t really work out.
It may just not quite be getting hot enough to tell it to come on. Check for a command signal from the ECM, unplug the cool fan1 relay and check for continuity to ground at pin 86 of the relay. Or at connector x1, pin e10 on the back of the fuse box.

Thanks Gtstorey. Its good to know what the temperatures are that they turn on it. I see what you mean with the weird percentages / multiple fans / different temps.

I was able to verify the fan is good. My Hp tuner should be here on the fourth and I will then turn down the temps and see what happens.

I have an intermittent no crank issue that Russel and I think is related to the clutch safety switch. Going to replace it and calibrate and see what happens this week then get the temp up and see if the fan comes on.

With HPTuner you will set fan speed to 100% at whatever temp you want it to cut on. It may also have a direct control on but I haven’t really looked at the HPTuner side of switching things since I have a Tech2 copy.

The tune I have from @Indy Lonnie is set to 100% at 175. That was a ZZP philosophy. Some may not like that. But in Houston, I think it works pretty well. My temps stay around 192 (thermostat opening) normally until I get on it hard and then sit still in traffic and it will rise to 200 or so Temporarily.

I am going to steal this idea :)

See my build log for a better picture. I would try to space the outside of the wheels about 23" as the loading ramp handling straps take up some room.

I kept the dolly on until time to install the engine. Worked great.

I have finally been able to get back to the Goblin after dealing with family issues for most of January.

Got some random items completed. The car starts reliably after replacing the clutch switch and Rotty running a calibration on it.

Also resolved the cooling fan not coming on. Had a bad electrical connection and now it works reliably.

Changed out my 3rd brake light. While the previous one worked, I just wasn't happy with it. Used an LED brake light and got some brackets from speedway (or was that summit) that worked well.

Also, trimmed the back end off the side panels, added rivnuts and painted them with Herculiner bed liner. Also, added some foam tape between the panels and the frame. I think they turned out well.

Russel (Rotty) also came by and helped align the car. Then we went for a drive around the hood to make sure nothing fell off. Seemed solid.

Headed out for the March 6th autocross. Thank you JBINTX for the trailer loan and Rotty for towing it.

Sorry I will be missing this autoX. Just remember those "intrepid" cones are not made by Dodge....... :0
You had better get some good video!

Classy
2 things, both related.

first, I saw Brett is going to the auto cross Sunday!
second, Jason why aren’t you going?
