Coil to low to fit wider tire

Guys, I’m buying new wheels and tires. Do I need to buy shorter coil-overs to fit the wider tire. Attached is a current pic. I need to have the bottom of the coil above the tire. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I have spacers on my back wheel hubs for this reason.

Is that the only option? Most of the Goblins have the coil above the tire to give a little more room

The coil should not be adjusted based on the tires, it should be adjusted to get the correct suspension setting.

Wheel offset or spacers should be used for tire clearance issues.

Some of the goblins run 15" wheels. My 17" overlap the coils more than your picture, and actually have less clearance.

And if you are buying new wheels, get ones that offset it the correct amount.

Got it. I’m going from a 245 to a 275 which is about 1.2” overall. I might just make it

I'm running Vors TR4 17x9 with 275-40x17 and no spacers. Mine clear with about 3/8". But that was with the camber reduced as much as I could get it.

I have 275's and needed 1.5" spacers for my wheels. But, my wheels are offset toward the outside of the wheel because they are meant for Mustangs. If you go with wheels that have a closer-to-0 offset, you may not need spacers.

Thanks guys. Fitment Industries asked me what thread size I had(5x114.3). Would they be same as the stock cobalt??

They're probably talking about the thread size on the lug studs. Cobalt stock is M12x1.5 if my memory serves.

If what you're actually asking about is the stock Cobalt's wheel lug pattern, it is 5x110. Or, for the base LS, 4x100.

You need to get the 5x110 bolt circle TR4s if you are sticking with the stock Cobalt SS hubs. Hub centric rings are also nice to have, but not required.

They help ensure alignment of the wheel center to hub center to help prevent wheel runout. The VORS TR4s use the 73.1 outer and 65.1 inner size - get the aluminum rings, the plastic ones are crap.

I wouldn't order spacers until you see that you need them. And then you can get the minimum if they are needed.
