V1 Heat exchanger fittings

Do the heat exchange elbow fittings require pipe tape/dope on them before installation to prevent leaking?

I'm not sure, but I used dope and they still leaked. Probably because I didn't notice I was overtightening them. I don't like the nylon fittings because I don't feel like I can get them tight enough to my liking.

I would either Teflon tape them or use some red or blue locktite.
