V1 Intercooler fans wiring

Wondering if it would be okay to wire in the intercooler fans to the second radiator fan plug or if this is a bad idea?

The wiring to make the two fans function at high and low fan speeds is sort of complicated, at least on the turbo. It might not be as simple as wiring it and go. You will have to make sure the 2nd ECM ground is still in place, and it might take an adjustment in the tune to make sure it cuts on early enough.

On the LSJ, the 2 fans are run in parallel (full speed) or serial (half speed) controlled by the ECU.
I also saw in HP Tuners that the AC Pressure sensor is used to set FAN2. The blue lines in this diagram.

Would it be easier to do my own relay/fuse setup and wire it to the accessory switch?

Yes that would be easier. You probably can find an unused accessory relay/fuse circuit already on your car, and repurpose it. The stereo amp maybe? Maybe fog lights? Rear window defroster?

If your main fan relay isn’t usable you can probably swap the ECM control ground to one of the other fan relays and make it work.

Does the fan have to be controlled by a relay? I am still working on trouble shooting my radiator fan not turning on. But will if I jump the relay. I am thinking about just running a switch if I can’t get it figured out.

Relays are a better option so they hold the load instead of a switch doing it.

Check and see if you have the ground on the control of the relay running to the ECM. If you are jumping the relay, and it works, the hot side of the relay control probably has power and then it can either only be a bad connection on the ecm or a bad relay.
