Yes. Seat mounts. Outside of the seat mounts need to be trimmed on the outside edges to clear. Grinder with a cut off wheel.

i hate cutting up perfectly good seats. . . .this is my passenger seat. . .blue tape I am assuming is the correct spot to trim? is this aggressive enough you think? is there anything needed on the front around the hooks? fitting the seats is starting to jack up my expensive paint job. grr.

Looks about right on where to cut, give or take a smidge.
I dont recall cutting anything from the hooks on the front of the seat rails.
I also removed the outer cover for the handles on the seat. You might be able to keep it, but it was getting in my way and with the side panels on, you'll never see it missing.
I didnt cut anything from the ebrake assembly.

I don't have any plans for a body of any sort at this juncture in time for THIS car. So for the near term I kinda don't want to trim or discard the darn plastic covers if at all can be helped.

I got into this project to learn how goblin did their thing getting a cobalt fwd into the rear and to help out the adult children of a friend who passed away (bought the kit from them)- id just like to finish the car and step daughter tells me today she may drive it to college this next session when weather does not require her to drive her bug. LOL

using what I am learning I am building 4 of these from T-rex trikes:
53002

oh look my frames are getting rusty in the 3 years this 90 day project turned into LOL
53015

and one of these from a VW Jetta TDI (ALH) them maybe 3 more with different drive trains including a hybrid AWD version

The guy I bought my kit from had 2 goblins. . . .he did this with his first one before he passed away:
53004

Coincidentally. . . .he did that after I told him about the R19 project above which I had started accumulating parts for way back in 2011 while we were working a conversion for SpecA to cobalt and I steered him to goblin as soon as they first opened their doors. Lets just say he was much better financed than I was and moved on out on his goblin project while I was on my last tour with the AF and not yet full time on cars.

I am going to apologize in advance to any would-be readers for letting out a bunch of frustration on my personal build log. This is just how it goes and I am actually biting my tongue (STS) very hard as I update the log.

oy. We just finished the stage one of moving the wife and daughter to my house located ~50minutes from town last week and still buried in boxes around the house. thinking until the other house sells and phase two begins (moving the staged furniture) I had some time to work on MY things it would be a grand fine week. . . .but nooooooo this has been the week from hell- seriously. I have been out in the crazy heat every single day this week attempting to even complete the most miniscule of tasks on the car with zero actual progress to show for things.

l am just shy of rage quitting this project and crushing the car. To say I am frustrated is an understatement of epic proportions. it may take me a while to get certain projects finished but thus far I have never actually QUIT any project. . .this goblin may be the one exception! This was supposed to be 90 days (tops) project. 3 years in and I spend more time looking up parts than turning a wrench by orders of 100 and any expected budget has long long ago been blown out of the water by twice++.

So as mentioned a bit previously Oldb1 washed his hands of the car after having sold off the wheels and seats from the donor and I had to give him $5000.00 to buy his interest out of the car (I haven't figured out the WHY of this yet because all funds spent were mine but Cest La vie to maintain the peace with friends) and the "alleged" parts and car got hauled over to my SUPER crowded BUSINESS production shop after the motor was slapped in place and the car was stuck on wheels borrowed from one of my business cars for the trip. only thing is. . . . 90% of the bolts and misc parts somehow didn't make the trip IF we ever had the to begin with. . . some of the parts I know we had and had spares because I never JUST buy the exact amount I buy extra for some dang reason and I have the receipts. the dang parts just vaporized I guess.

these are the cradle bolts. . . see a problem? I sure did. the one with lesser thread was jammed in the cradle handing out and inch and a half from the bottom of the car. oy! The rusty one came from one of the two cars I dismantled last week for some of my other BUSINESS projects- I as a rule do not use rusty parts on business cars or even my own. . . .but at this point I may actually be beyond caring. the baggie is allegedly the crossed referenced gm part.. . .but it isn't- cause the threads are wAAAAY too short. I am 100% sure I previously bought 4 of these in 2023, 'cause as i said, I have the receipts but those parts did not even make it to my shop. . . and these I had to re-buy again last month in hopes of getting this money pit DEE oh IN Eeee.

if I only had a m14-2.0 die I guess I could fix one of these problems that I really feel I should not be having to fix and press on. sadly no metric that big just yet in the shop- add one more thing to the amazon cart- sheesh. But it doesn't stop here! oh no not on this project from hell. I see oldb1 used 4 different bolts to hang the rear suspension arms. . .what happened to the ones we pulled from the donor as a minimum? they obviously didn't make the trip. I ended up pulling 4 from my personal VW hardware stash that "Fit" but may be on the short side. definitely 1/2 inch shorter (~12.5mm-lol) than the ones on the 2 recently dismantled cobalts. . . the tie rod brace piece thingie that fills in for the rack and pinion also has mis-matched bolts. . .only one could have come off a cobalt- no sign of the donor parts. new bolts are only $28.56 plus $11.94 shipping EACH

. . the engine mounts have a bolt on each side 1/2 inch from making contact with the frame (bottomed out) and no sign at all of the front engine mount. shouldn't those parts be in the parts taken to my shop? . .oh heck no! oy. oy. oy! but aren't one of the engine mount bolts on each side supposed to come from the donor seats? oh well. at this point I am highly suspecting that not one of the donor cars bolts made the trip to my shop- and for sure not one of the NEW bolts sourced over the last 3 years from amazon and other venders.

it has been exceptionally hot and humid the last month plus. . . .My brand new SS Recaro seats were armor-all'ed by my step daughter last week. . . . .and they are now covered with mold. oy! toss the armor-all and ban that junk from my shop for life. now how to save the very expensive seats? oy!

connect the radiator and intercooler? most of those hoses have gone missing too. pretty sure we did have those. I have a few sheet metal style hose splices. . .but frame rail hoses and cobalt turbo engine don't match in diameter. . . I see lots of issues with leaks in the forums and been down the mismatched hose thing before. . . .another $300 worth of misc heater hose and adapters in bound from amazon in the hopes the forum comes thru on the other thread with the part numbers for the hoses goblin recommends/ships with a kit or what ever. . . .then a shipping delay. story of my life with this car.

work stoppage AGAIN for lack of the correct pieces to put on the bleepen money pit from hell. Meanwhile, the bleepen car is sitting in my welding bay effectively halting all of my business production and making me "moody" says the wife. go figure!

I vent my frustrations in my thread all the time. It helped get me through and honestly, the guys here helped me through most of the rants.

Those subframe bolts, minw look like the rusted one... in shape anyways. I have a couple sitting on my kitchen counter that I wirewheeled I can send you if I can ever get to UPS and a few more sitting in a parts bucket that will clean up with a wire wheel.
The metal hose splices are wicked tight going into the hoses in the frame and smooth going into engine hoses. Yes, they are two different diameters. You'll chalk this up and just tighten the clamps down to make up the difference.
My first gen SS recaros seats do the exact same, clean them well before it gets too out of hand.

Sometimes I go to the U-pull it yards with only my huge magnetic broom and zip lock bags and cruse the import side. . . they kind of hate me for it. I've brought home at least 50 pounds of metric hardware on several occasions at $2 a baggie- then I toss them all into a harbor freight cement mixer with equal amount of aluminum oxide sandblasting media for about 8 hours. they end up satin finish in most cases and sorting is then the issue. I spent maybe 4 hours between yesterday and today sorting my VW stashes in the hopes of finding something that will work for the Goblin. it doesn't quite work the same around domestic car areas. . . .those are mixed up pretty good on SAE and metric.

for splices. . .I ordered some stainless barbed fittings the size of the cobalt hoses. . .plan to stick them in the lathe and turn down just a wee bit on one side for the frame rail side of things. I have gotten frustrated to the point of "patching things together" I have been contemplating making a form to press solid tubing but then think about the crazy amount of time it would take and come to my senses (somewhat).

I much prefer stock OEM vehicle bolts over any generic bolt from a store. Pulling them off of vehicles is just the way to go. I’m going to have to do that on my vette project. Bunch of missing bolts and I don’t want to nickel and dime myself to death trying to buy all new. Just gonna hit the junk yard.

I feel your frustrations. I know when building mine, one missing or bad part just killed the day/weekend. Whiskey helped though.

I prefer a really good spiced rum straight up in a chilled glass. . .but this car would leave me needing a new liver too. lol
Man, stop sweating those lost bolts. Take pix and I'll send you some. I've been doing the same collecting around the Cobalts for a year or so. When the yards pull an engine or trans they just fling them on the dirt. We will find you the bolts, you just keep dreaming and building!

You guys are all top notch!

I may head off to some yards again myself because with all the cobalt projects on the business side of things I am going to need to stock up!

These are the bolts I 100% know I need to find so far left to right they should be: seat bolt, rear suspension mount, rack and pinion bolt, and cradle bolt.

The thread gauges that I have in the shop right now do not work so great with little starter nubs being on the end of the bolts.
according to the internet the cradle bolt SHOULD be a M14-2.0 and approx 125mm length (5 inches)

i am just estimating here but the rack and pinion bolt appears to be an M12 and the both the seat and rear suspension M10. i will edit for thread pitch once i find it.

I believe the steering rack had DF supplied bolts/lock nuts to hold it in.

The Long thin bolt (2nd from right) looks like the rear transmission bolt that hold the DF supplied mount to the subframe. There should be three of those with nuts. It goes through a triangle shaped section on the rear of the subframe, under the muffler area.

The "cradle bolt" is subframe to body bolt? How many do you need? The rear "suspension bolt" is the control arm pivot end? to sub frame, 2 per side? how many? I think I have some of those 10mm coarse x 35mm long? how many? DM me your address as well.

yes the cradle can also be called a subframe. the cobalt has 4 the goblin uses 2 of these bolts plus 2 carriage bolts with the parts kit. I think those are covered right now for this car.

yes the rear suspension bolts (second from left in picture above) are 2 per side on the fwd end of the control arm. I used my 1/2 inch shorter VW parts for now. so call those covered until an arm falls off.

The third bolt from the right is used on the cobalt to hold the rack and pinion to the sub frame. these are re-used to hold the tie rod brace part that Goblin provided to replace the rack and pinion on the "sub frame" or "cradle" I am short one currently for this car.

the shortest bolt in the picture is a seat bolt supposedly. this car is currently missing all 4 but those are the easiest to source and can even be non-automotive once I can verify the thread pitch/size.

I'll mail you 4 of those pivot bolts. Do you need the little covers too?, they help contain the pivot rubber. I've got plenty. Yes, the seat bolts are hardware store/ common. I've picked up some of those all thread bolts, I'll pick you a couple.

You know only one of the several cars I dismantled had the little metal covers over the suspension mount ends. . .I think it was the naturally aspirated/auto transmission one.

This place is sooooooo crazy crowded I've been stacking the cars inside 2 deep and 2 tall. A 4 post lift showed up today and with the exception of a cord and hydraulic fluid it is assembled and ready to be shoved into the garage. kind of a mile marker. Something like 5 more to go after the shop gets extended 24 more feet. lol. The heat however was horrible and I am a bit past feeling ill.

I have 2 days to get the stalker re-assembled for a show. If I can focus and not jump project to project I might get it done. I was planning on re-mounting the supercharger tonight when last night didn't work out but don't think I have the gumption left in me. Everything keeps sliding on to the left on my calendar! lol

I'm in a similar but generally more relaxed spot! My Garage: Erected but not yet Inspected! RV dock should be complete for inhabitation by Saturday PM. Home construction slated to start 10 September! Keep On Truckin' Man!:cool:

Where are you located? Maybe someone close can come and give you a hand. Sometimes it can just help with the frustration factor. I’m in Michigan if you are close. Also I switched to the tub subframe so I may have most of what you need to get the rear end finished up
