V1 LNF Turbo Heat Shield

I have been thinking of removing the heat shield from my turbo. For no other reason other than aesthetics before I do I want to make sure I won’t regret it. Has anyone removed theirs and if so did you melt anything?

Ive seen a lot of the ss/tc cars without the heat shields and havent come across anything in my readings yet that reads as a detriment. I dont plan on running one myself.

I painted mine to match my subframe, downpipe and muffler when I built my car, and it still looks great. I don't feel it's detrimental to the look at all.

Since no one has reported any detriment or advantage to any configuration, what is the most asthetic/cool/Igotaturbo look that goes with a Goblin's character?

Yeah, on my daily commute with a 40 mph speed limit.

I'm running mine with no turbo heat shield. No problems yet. You have an engine cover and I don't though, not sure if you'd get more of a heat build up under the cover or if the cover ends far enough away from it that it doesn't matter.

Any way you look at this, the stock Cobalt set up with an enclosed engine compartment, with a heat shield installed, and the turbo buried between the engine and the firewall is the worst case conditions as far as heat. The Goblin being an open engine bay, even with the engine cover installed, will generate less localized heat.

I think I’m going to take it off and see what happens. Hopefully it doesn’t mess with the engine cover or wrap on it

It won't mess with anything. DS's point above is very salient. In the Cobalt's engine compartment, heat is a much bigger issue. Even with an engine cover, the Goblin engine compartment has gobs (see what I did there?) more ventilation.

That shield is just begging for something on it - maybe a DF logo - or in it - like speedholes for extra ventilation!

I think you want to keep the heat in the turbo to make it spool faster, or at least that is what I’ve always heard.

I asked about this when I was at ZZP on the dyno. I was told to remove all the shielding back there. Wouldn’t hurt a thing. Been that way for years now. Went on a 5 hour drive Friday. Heat soaked my IATS were 13 - 18 different. I would say it’s ok to remove the heat shielding.
