V1 Lorenzo’s Daily Goblin #528 ‘06 SC SS donor

ZoblinMobile
Ahhhh it’s finally time.

I just placed my order and I’m so freakin excited to be #528.

Picked up the donor for a great deal. It had just been in a wreck, but the A pillar was the primary damage. I drove it on and off the trailer. That was back in August 2023. A year later and it’s almost completely disassembled. guess I have about 2 months to finish that up.

My garage is covered in car parts… and I love it. Anyone else building in Virginia right now?

Are you all having any luck selling your donor doors and trunks and things? I’ve got SS seats but the driver side is pretty beat.

Excited new Goblin builder…

Welcome Lorenzo. Looks like you have a great start on your project with the donor almost completely torn down. Please tell us you have been labeling everything as you disassemble and taking pics. :D Time has a way of eating away at your memory and it's easy to forget what plugs into where. Keep the forum posted on your progress.

I sold most everything I didn’t need and whatever didn’t sell went to the scrap yard. Not sure what Virginia has to have for titling but check and be sure you don’t need to hang onto the donor car for the process

I'm surprised we are three replies into this and no one has mentioned to save the e-brake cable guide tubes. Anyway, I'll take the honor of saying it. Save those. Congrats on kit #528

You’re right, I haven’t heard that one. I was just staring at the brake assembly and the cables thinking what to do with them. I’ll take those out too and put them in my pile of things.

Thanks for the tip!

Move got plenty of room, so if I need to keep the frame for a while I can do that. Thanks for the heads up. Not sure I know what to do with it anyway.

Guess at some point I’ll have to get it to a junk yard.
Thanks for the heads up on that one.
Much appreciated

Got a lot done Yesterday evening.

Swung by Harbor Freight yesterday and noticed they had a plug in impact gun for $25. I didnt pick it up then because what I really wanted was the motorcycle dolly they have on clearance for $65. However I went back today and got it. For 25 bucks I can try it out, right? I dont know about you all, but I had a hell of a time trying to get the axle nuts off. In fact I couldnt, so I pulled the entire thing off at the boot. You can see that in my pictures in the first post. Well, I tried this new toy and bam, the nuts came right off. No problems. I should have just bought this a long time ago. Well now I have it.

I also picked up some containers to sort the nuts and bolts into. I saw another member do that with labels and I really liked it. Thanks for the inspiration. Now I have sorted all the nuts and bolts I need to label them. That wont be too hard, right. lol. I got most of them labeled and made sure to get all the ones I was pulling off from here on. Ive also labeled all the cables that are hanging around with masking tape and permanent marker. The dynamic duo.

Removed the dash and dropped the sub frame. Then we dropped the engine. Had a buddy come over and we had a great time. Did you fun during your build? Was it a getaway for you? We had a blast. It really is quite wild to watch this car come apart and see all the items for the goblin.

Shes coming along.... I get more and more excited every day.

I have never done anything this involved in the automotive world, it is an absolute blast to watch everything come together (and apart;)) as the build progresses! Best of luck on your build, I look forward to following along.

Are you doing your own wire harness?

First to say don’t forget the park brake handle and cables. :D

plus on a LSJ, I like to tell people to cut the fuel line off the car use that in the build. The factory 45° bend quick connect is nicer than the 90° aftermarket one Df provides.

Its been a minute but I'm back with an update.

October 6th my son was born! Its been a busy October and now its November. :D

Finished pulling the wire harness our of the car. That thing is such a cluster of cables. I am really really really happy that I took the advice of other goblin owners and labeled all the wires. A roll of masking tape later and we have just about all the connectors labeled. I have 2 or three that I missed during disassembly but Im not worried about those. I should be able to identify them and label them as I go.

Took some pictures of the seats and whatnot to try to sell them. Theres a sub and the trunk and a door. Dont know if ill be able to get anything for them, but worst case I guess they go with the chassis to the junk yard.

Who doesnt love new tools. This project has let me buy a bunch of new tools that I didnt have. Snap ring pliers, a new riveter, a nice impact drill(those axel nuts are.... nuts...). I got around buying an engine hoist, but I think ill get one anyway because we will probably do an engine swap on a jeep we have.

Other items we got knocked out. Dash disassembly. Took me a min to figure out how to get the clutch pedal removed and the cylinder that goes with it. I had the hardest time getting the steering wheel off. I destroyed that thing. Glad DF has a replacement, haha. Power steering and adjustable column are removed. All the pedals, the gauge cluster, and the wire harness that went with the dash.

One thing that I will have to figure out: there was some DIY wiring from under the driver dash to the front of the engine somewhere. I havent traced the cabled but I left all the wire whomever added. So Ill need to figure out what that is and account for it. So many adventures.

All in all I am having a really great time on this project. Its nice to make some good progress on this each time i touch it.

Kit has been ordered and all is paid for, super excited about that delivery. Have not heard from the delivery company yet but im sure thats coming. I contacted a few paint shops around town and have plans to get everything powercoated or painted when they arrive. Still need to clean everything and get it prepped for color.

Which leads me to my next problem, I can not decide on a color. Its one thing to buy a car a color, but when I can make it whatever I want.... this has been a challenge. I feel like I will know when i have the right combination, but I have not had that feeling yet. Still trying on ideas and colors. I have so many options and ideas that none of them seem to be the winner. Maybe I should just put them in a hat, pull one out and dive in dedicated to make that theme the best I can.

Pretty sure we just need to take the rear suspension and gas tank off and then we are on to prep for painting and install.

I did end up cutting this off and I probably should have asked before I did it, but here we are. I cut back about 2 feet from the end of the braided line. Does that sound right or did I not cut at the right spot. Are there any instructions anywhere in using the factory connection with the DF kit? Maybe I didnt type in the correct search but I wasnt able to find a how to on this one.

Thanks for the heads on grabbing this part.

If you cut anywhere on the hard line, you’ll be fine. If you use it, you’ll end up cutting right at the transition from the hard line to flex line.
