V1 Scotts 2009 SS/TC #478

DUNE
Its been a little while since I've posted any updates here on the forum since I went back to school in September
This last week I had reading which naturally I used to spend working on the Goblin! My objectives for the week were to finish up my flooring and make some custom fender for my rear wheels.

Flooring - Manitoba safety inspection required me to make the floor more secure so I cut up some plywood sheets to make a wooden floor level with the square tubing of the chassis. Then I purchased some cheap amazon diamond stich upholstery and this last week I finally cut out and temporarily installed it in place. Not sure about the quality or longevity of the material so Ill likely have to be careful getting in and out of the car in the future.

Rear Fenders - I ended up going with some 295/40/r18 wheels for the rears of the car which unfortunately stopped me from using the fenders I had ordered from DF so I needed to fabricate my own. I used a marine liquid foam to pour around my tire to create a mold for my fiberglass. Then over the next few days I spent lots of time sanding down and shaping the mold. Then I applied a layer of Bondo to seal off the porous foam and let me get a smoother finish. I did a few rounds of the Bondo & sanding then sealed with a mold release wax. I have not laid the fiberglass yet but I am hoping that it should turn out nicely. Ill throw in some pictures below

Something I think I saw someone also do is take the DF fenders, split them down the middle and glass in an extension strip. This way you preserve the mounting points to the DF brackets. You could lay your stock halves in your mold if they fit and use the mold for the glass extension.

Yeah, that is what I had planned to do initially which is why I purchased them in the first place but the tires that I bought have a significantly different radius then those fenders were designed for since the sidewall is so large. Even if I were to extend the fenders, the curvature of the fenders does not match the curvature of the tire. Rather than have a goofy looking fender thats arched steeper than my tire I figured id make new ones

With a full 2.5 weeks off for Christmas break, it was either work on the car or go crazy so naturally I've been tinkering.

Front Bumper
While I was on the front of the car I began dreaming up ideas for a front bumper which unfortunately ill need for safety inspection. I browsed the forum to see what other members have designed then taking some ideas from there with my own twist I threw together an idea on SolidWorks. The measurements are not exact and I was kinda hoping to make it look a bit more aggressive. Currently the model is with 1.5" round steel that ill be powder-coating black and will come just a bit past the headlights. Ill throw some pictures below, let me know what you guys think. Ill probably start dreaming up some ideas for the rear as well soon.
Radiator & Hood
I finally got around to putting a wire mesh over the front of the hood to cover up the radiator. I also decided to paint the radiator black and for a bit of extra spice I painted our chassis number 478 in white overtop the black. Decently happy with the result.

Front and Rear Fenders
With the adapters/spacers that I have up front, I'm not able to use the DF supplied bolts to mount my front fenders so I've had to find a different bolt which hopefully will work. Another thing I need is side markers which I am planning on cutting a slit in the side of the fender to mount them. I got the side markers off a Mini Cooper. I just need to figure out a way to mount them securely to the fender...
My custom rear fenders I was working on are going to need a lot more fiberglass materials than I expected. I got about 1.5 layers on the supplies I had purchased before I ran out. I couldn't find anyone nearby who sells in bulk so I purchased some online in much larger sizing.

Haha if ever hit a moose in this car, Im not expecting to survive no matter what my bumper looks like! :)

That model is with 1.5" tubing, Im on the fence about seeing if I can find some 1.25" or possibly 1". Personally I think 1" might look a little silly. I like the hoop design because it frames the radiator nicely but I could thin out the side bars. The below render is with 1" tubing. I also understand that the scale of models can be deceiving compared to reality so ill get my hands on some material of both sizes to compare beside the car.

I dont know if this helps or not, but 1.5" on the right, 1" in the middle and 1.25" on the left

I also made a 3D model of the hood. Shoot me a PM with your email address if you want it.

Finally, it is done! After going back and forth with MPI for the last two years, I have finally managed to find a way to get this bad boy street legal!!!

To my knowledge, this is the first Goblin in the province of Manitoba to get fully legalized and they did not make it easy on me haha. Our public insurance system is not friendly to custom builds and this car was no exception. It took countless emails, many hours of phone calls and mountains of paperwork, but finally I've got plates and insurance. I managed to take it out for a few rides before winter came down in force and I got to say, this car is way to much fun. The reactions from other drivers is priceless :D. If anyone here wants to know more specifics, feel free to send me a DM.

Now that I have plates, I can finally begin working on some other things that I have been pushing off/ and dreaming about. Next up, I'm considering getting the anodized shifter kit and the BC coil over set
