Well things escalated very quickly this week....
Again, my intention is to build the car much later in 2021, but after talking with Adam I decided to place the order to lock in the 2020 pricing.
And after all the input above, I decided to try and find a super high mileage, badly wrecked LNF to scavenge the wiring out of then proceed to buy everything else new.
I've been looking on an off for several months on CoPart and IAA and there has never been a suitable donor close enough for me to pick up. (I'm in California). Paying to ship a wrecked car across the country didn't make any sense to me either.
With the kit being ordered I told myself to diligently look for the next 6 months and I am sure I would find something, giving myself an 800 mile range.
Well..... After checking CoPart, AIA, Craigslist, all the Cobalt Facebook Groups, and generally Google there wasn't anything available. The Plan was to start the search again next week and each week after that. Then late yesterday, I was reminded of the Facebook Marketplace so did one last search and there it was, and 08 LNF with 4,000, yes FOUR THOUSAND original miles! And just 30 miles from my house! I almost missed it as I though LNFs only started in 09.
After a few FB messages I went and took a look at the car and got the back story.
The Car was rolled over less than 3 months after it was bought. A race shop bough the car back in 2009 and stored it inside. That shop when out of business and the current owner picked it up in a lot with several other cars about 6 months ago.
We put a jumper box on the car today and it fired right up and the dash does say 4018 miles on it. It doesn't appear that any of the needed Goblin components are damaged. And the interior is in amazing condition.
Checking the product codes in the trunk, the car has the magical G85 listed as original equipment, so the car should have an LSD.
Once I saw that tag I knew there was no way I wasn't going to buy the car....
So I bought it on the spot.
$5,000 for a 4,000 mile LNF w/LSD, I think that a killer deal.
I had $6,000 in my budget just for a crate motor and new F35 Transmission with LSD
And it top it off the now previous owner will be delivering the car to my place in just a couple of hours.
I guess its time to start a build log
