V1 Wallace58's Build

Desert Sasqwatch
It's his Goblin, let him build it the way he wants to build it - coming from the person who is generally not following the rules and doing my own thing. It's okay to provide some helpful advise and related experience to someone to help avoid making a costly mistake, but this needs to be balanced against allowing a builder to try something different or modify parts they already have to make them work. But once that information has been disseminated, and usually acknowledged, there is no need for others to keep pushing that same information. Please be respectful of others and a builders need to experiment and try new things, as this is what makes each Goblin unique and an object of pride. It's all good! :D

The intentions are good. People scour this forum every day for information on various topics, and often the perspective is altered by time, with people settling on the first solution they find, even if it's unnecessary or incorrect.

I've gone back and edited a number of things over the years with the intention of not allowing the above to happen.

Nobody here is mad, except maybe @wallace58 ?.... either way, can we please collectively work on bringing down the temperature of the forum a little bit? It hasn't been the most pleasant place of late.

Today I installed the updated tensioner and guide bolt as was suggested. Thanks for the heads up. I fixed my donors engine wire harness where it was needed and swapped it out to the 60K engine. I also changed out the V/C gasket, spark plugs, oil filter, Front and rear crank seals, Painted the valve cover and coil cover. Installed header and O2 sensor. Installed new serpentine belt. Most likely I will be putting this build on the back burner for awhile. I have family commitment's to take care of next few months.

That's a really nice looking engine you've got there. In spite of family commitments, you'll be done before you know it.

I just got it from ZZP with my guide bolt yesterday. I would think they sent me the correct one. Am I wrong in thinking that?

I could just be seeing it wrong, but in looking out thought I should ask. Your first and second picture of post #84, that's just a solid bolt right with a few different steps? Is that installed on the exhaust side of the engine? If so, that should have a tensioner bolt that has a spring loaded plunger like shown in the picture in post #88.

His first and second picture aren't the same "bolt". The second picture is of the one piece guide bolt that goes in the end of the engine below the intake cam gear.

Yeah, that makes sense if they're not the same. Wasn't sure if the bolt that goes below the intake gear COULD go into the spot for the tensioner, which would result in bad things I would think. Just didn't want his engine to eat itself or anything on first startup!

So, that bolt is definitely the updated type. But (to me) the tensioner bolt (exhaust side of engine pointing into the timing chain area) looks like what I understand to be the original type.

II do know that I put a tensioner in the area where it goes and the guide bolt where it goes. Since I just ordered both from ZZP the other day I was hoping they would be correct. Is it possible the tensioner is incorrect. It was slightly different than the OEM one. but installed just as the ZZP video showed me.> Everything seems to be working fine.

Sorry, I think I was probably confused by the pictures initially thinking the bolt in your hand was the same one in that first photo which should be the tensioner. I can't imagine ZZP selling an old version of the tensioner, but I do only see one listing for a tensioner on their website, the one I took a snippet of. Do you perhaps have a link to the one you purchased?

Here is the 2 parts on their website I ordered under Ecotec - Camshaft's & Valve Train.

Those do look right... I don't know... perhaps there are still ones out there being made with the flat hex head (non-conical type).

Looking forward to seeing the build continue to progress!

Got back a few days ago from my Step-Daughter's wedding in Key West. I was able to get my frame and 38 metal parts back from powder coater in satin black. I decided to do a few things not as the normal way of building a Goblin. I am going to use a stand alone harness for the drive train from Swap Specialties. I will make the rest of the harness myself. Also I will be doing a custom dash with digital gauges. I have been able to complete up to radiator install. I am going to do the harness further down the road. I am enjoying the build so far. I will be leaving on a 6 week vacation on 4/24/23 so not sure how far I will go.

are you doing all of these builds to resell or do you have a huge barn full of kit cars somewhere?!?!
Most I built for customers. Some for myself then sold when price was right. Most likely will sell goblin after 500 miles to make sure all the bugs are out. FFR builds have slowed down and I thought this looked like a fun alternative to Factory five. So far I am enjoying it. I tend to do builds a little differently than the usual crowd so to speak. If you go to Factory Five forum and look up wallace18 you can see all my previous builds.

Some people jist like to build. That’s what I enjoy. I have built jeeps (CJ’s not angry eyes mall crawlers), race motorcycles (sealey triumph) and now a goblin. I like the challenge. My current challenge is making the Goblin better, much better.
