V1 Brett W’s City Goblin – 09 SS Donor #229 v1

Brett
Replaced the timing bolt today. Also installed the engine. I didn't have any donor bolts that would attach to the transmission through the spacers but home depot had some that worked.

Up next is to install the subframe / transmission mounts / rear suspension then maybe tackle the steering wheel. Still waiting on my wiring harness and seats but they will get here when they get here.

Now I have the great bolt pattern debacle. Initially, I found a set of wheels available in 5x110 that I liked. They were 18x8 but the lead time is crazy long, several months. Then I got the ride in JBINTX's Goblin and I realized that I need as much tire as reasonably possible which puts me in wider wheels and the need to change bolt patterns to 5x114. I found a jig to line up all the holes if I choose to drill the hubs and rotors myself but I don't have a press to press in the studs. Also the jig is 100+ dollars. I have reached out to DF to see what they can do.

Obligatory engine install pictures attached.

The hub centered spacers are working well. They are a bit more work when I have a race, as I switch out the wheels to the stock Cobalt ones when I tow the Goblin 82 miles to a race, then swap 40 nuts to put the racing tires on, then 40 nuts after the race.

This year I decided to try wide street tires, and only use 1 set of tires, but it isn't as fun on the autocross course.

(The kid wanted a ride, so we putted around my yard. He was happy.)
It is a lot easier on the pocket book, as sticky tires wont last long, and I do like driving my Goblin regularly.

While staring at parts between work calls. I think I have the sub frame and rear mount figured out but I cannot figure out the front mount. It looks like they have changed the design based on the pictures on the forum.

Here is the front mount that I have. What I cannot visualize is where the flat part with the three holes attaches too on the f35 transmission.

Sorry for the pic quality, it's not easy to get good pics under there.

*edit* Wait, what the heck, yours is different than mine. Sorry about that!

Actually, those photos do help for the rear mount.

The one I am looking at that I have is the front mount. I might have the wrong one but not sure. Going to reach out to Adam in a bit and see what he says.

Yeah, now I am really confused, your front mount looks like some sort of Frankenstein melding of my front and back mounts.

That is the rear mount. The three holes bolt to the cobalt subframe. It replaces the one I circled.

So the rubber bushing in my donors lower control arms are shot.

In general, are people replacing the bushings or the entire control arms?

I know somebody with a press so pressing out and in bushings shouldn't be an issue. Just wondering because the bushings are about 3.50 to 37 dollars while the lower control arms are in the 60-120 range.

I'm starting to get "that look" every time a package is dropped off.....

Well, after further inspection, one of my LCA's is missing a chunk of aluminum, most likely from the accident that totaled out the Cobalt. I'm gonna hold of getting replacements until after thanksgiving. I have plenty of other stuff to do.
