No, Im in the closer to Philly.
Gotcha, I’m up towards Scranton area. Sick build though manNo, Im in the closer to Philly.
Gotta take it easy. it can be a handful.
Shifter/Spring pics. My shifter is crisp and returns w/o issue.Hell yeah it is... wowzers.
Got my first drive in today!! It was only up the road and into a parking lot, a few laps and back home to log some idle files found some things out.
-Its running lean. Logged some idle clips.
-1st-3rd are mega bouncy, could be tune related.
-This DF shifter is either garbage (not the general consensus) , mine isnt set up right or I did something wrong because mine stays in nuetral left and nuetral right without returning. Can someone snap me a Pic of what that spiral spring looks like installed? Forward and back is crisp, but that left to right is wonky. I wonder if my shifter is clear on the trans... hmmmm
-this mirrored shift pattern, not bad, but this finding 1st is very difficult without some sort of Reverse lockout on the F40. Either I need to figure out how to get that RSX shifter setup or fab up something to stop me at limit in nuetral before I get to reverse.
-steering wheel is on crooked
-trans is loud, accel and decel is loud.
-there is an unnerving noise coming from a point of nuetrality in the engine while revving, sounds like it *might* be a top end noise. Definitely a rattle. Not always there though and I can NOT replicate it on command.
-i kept thinking "huh, this thing keeps coming to a stop by itself". Two laps around the parking lot later I realized I had the ebrake partially engaged. *smacks forehead
I GOT MY FIRST THUMBS UP!! The smile on that guy's face was awesome!! Such a good feeling on my end, too. Two and a half years of work and today was it!
Look... I live on a very busy road and 5:30-6:00pm is NOT ideal for a test run, but I could NOT resist. With Scott as my passenger, it was a success!
Congrats on the first drive! When you say the shift pattern is mirrored, describe which gear is where in the double H pattern?
The rattling occurs in neutral? Does it change with the clutch engaged versus disengaged? The F40 and dual mass clutch are known to make rattling noise when idling in neutral.

Its been a while since I assembled the shifter so I dont remember all the steps but this nut on mine is into the lock portion of the nut but not tightened down tight. I wonder if you have it cranked down and its binding it up.They look the same to me. I followed instructions. That spring in the middle. When I move to one side and it opens that spring, the spring doesnt always push back. I will have to have a second look this weekend. Thank you for the pictures.

Well, now you have me rethinking things. I just rewatched parts of the shifter install video and Lonnie's soothing voice doesn't mention to snug that one and back it off like he does for the reverse lockout. Come to find out mine had just loosened up from the past 3 seasons. I tightened it down and it still returns to center just fine. So my guess about it being too tight is wrong.I will check that tomorrow. Its a good possibility as ai didnt know that was a possibility.
I wish I had more experience to draw from on your shift pattern, that is most peculiar!................... A quick check, side to side motion makes the shift shaft plunger go up and down on the trans(which chooses a row), front to back throws the big counterweight swing thing(chooses a gear). Swapped cables would give a really strange(but oddly functional) shift pattern, installing the shifter(turned 180*, front in the back) would give similar strange function/results....... Strangely if both cables are hooked up on both ends I imagine you will have "shift action" of some kind!............ I'm really curious about how all this concludes!..........(Caution: TMI ahead!) I crafted my own shifter out of a Cavalier shifter inspired by the design of the 2nd and 3rd gen Toyota MR2 shifter. The shift handle's pivot ball is nearly on the floor, the rod that stuck down I hacked off at the ball. The Gear select cable mount is now on the shift handle above the ball the same distance it hung below the ball. The Row selector "L" shaped lever that originally hung down, I cut it off below it's pivot point and welded it back on directly above that pivot point. Made it into an actual "L". I think this is my fifth design, AND it seems to work, so there is that.View attachment 53097
The rattling happens only while revving, I would say yes-in nuetral and when it does, its a sustained noise, almost like it could be a timing chain noise. It is a nuetral balance shaft build, but that shouldn't be anything that comes and goes... or am I hitting a vibration frequency without load? Just talking outloud.
