Has anyone talked to goblin HQ lately? i have a bunch of parts on order and requested our MSO via email and called over a dozen times. It goes straight to Lonnie's voice mail- and i left one message- no need to go overkill. lol It's been all less than even crickets. i am going to try one more time today on the phone.

Another question I am supposed to track down an answer to involves the liquid side of the intercooler to the heat exchanger. We did receive the two PVC pipes with 5/8 shark bite fittings. the heat exchanger and intercooler have 3/4 outlets. has anyone gone to 3/4 to 5/8 elbow adaptors rather than trying to make those pipes properly seal up? from what OLDB1 and I have read on the forum leaking is pretty common issue and we think that 3/4 hose going to 5/8 fitting would be a major contributor to the leaks. since we are having to source most of our parts "Alacarte" we were planning on being consistent in size front to rear.

comegetjoe
we have a few 3/4 fittings and some what appear to be aluminum fittings- but the white tube that goes in the tunnel is 5/8

The hose fits on the barb, but the rigid pipe doesn't fit the hose very well, correct?

As I was told, you just have to make sure they are really tight on there. I had the same issue and thoughts.

I didn't use the white tubes from DF, I ran some other heater hose as to avoid the leaking issue that many others reported.

I ordered the steering rack limiter on 2/2. Emailed them on 2/28 and was told they're "waiting on a part". Nothing since.
Sorry man. I did manage to get ahold of Lisa in the front office the other day. I was so surprised that she picked up I forgot half the questions I needed to ask. but she said she is currently the only office worker so if she gets up to go to the warehouse or on one line then it goes to voicemail. I suppose the short story is persistent with calls and specific if you need a call back but don't leave lots of voice mails because one should be enough for voicemails.

one question in particular- I should probably call back about soonest is regarding those fancy struts. . . one of the jam nuts (middle one) had defective threads and massage it as much we might it will barely start on the strut body but certainly not go to the place it needs to be. I am not impressed so far with this particular brand of strut- since machining tolerances of both the nuts and barrels must be out of spec. Being what it is though I need to buy another jam nut- from somewhere. . . I have not gotten any feedback from the email I sent requesting input.

my parking brake kit also went into the waiting for parts category. apparently those 10-inch discs were in short supply- since we never got the rear discs with our estate sale parts, we kind of need them either way. this isn't looking too good to be done by the meet up on the 16th! oy!

Here is the turbo outlet solution we came up with to miss the rear frame member we shortened and turned the stock turbo outlet in an old lathe- it would have been prettier if i had access to my own shop but we are very crunched for time at this point so it will have to do for a little bit.

Our mirrors showed up, but the parking brake kit has gone Back Ordered with no ETA- I supposed for paperwork and inspection purposes we fake it and bolt the rear wheels on anyway?

The engine is in but with all the other details to go including the paperwork push thru the state capital (MSO has yet to arrive) i don't think this car will be ready for the meet up. I should be done forming and bead rolling all the turbo pipes this afternoon and oldb1 should have all the radiator, intercooler lines and vacuum lines that need to go down the tunnel hooked up if things go as planned. . . but when does that ever happen? lol

AWW come on, it could happen. Well, Yeah, I wouldn't bet on a Bureaucracy finishing anything quickly that can be put off indefinitely!o_O

Its been a while since I've been on here to specifically update any progress on "my" goblin- the tread title has been changed to reflect that this is no longer a joint project. Since the last year, parts have shown up. others have gone completely missing and the car has moved from Oldb1's shop to mine. Petty much Oldb1 has washed his hands of the project, short of, as he says helping me start it the first time. I think the biggest of the several issues he had with the project is that this is a full roll cage goblin and he figures that he cannot climb in an out of it unassisted at his age. in the process of moving the car I had another $5000 added to the build cost to buy out oldb1's "labor". . . so definitely upside down on things now despite starting out well ahead grr. ah well.

This week happens to be the last week before the wife and Step daughter are at the acreage full time- for the last 6 years I have been commuting 45+ minutes each way to get back and forth to my shop. This has been an epic summer move (can you say HOT?) with interior house painting, new carpet install, and all kinds of "important" (to them) changes to things that were never broken to begin with. <sigh> there might be a bit of respite following next weekend before the other house sells and then we have to do the moving of all the furniture that remains for "staging". Meanwhile, I am BURIED under things needing to be dealt with inside the shop, the house and heck all over the acreage too. I even bought a 40 foot semi trailer as a "temp" storage unit for the stuff coming and going of late and its pretty filled up with stuff listed on craigslist/facebook market place to go but getting very little hits. I think we have 20+ cars here too now and I REALLY do not like any sitting out. We've talked of extending both the length of the shop and the house's attached garage to allow for more interior parking. . . . .but can't get contractors out til fall (at best) to even get estimates- I sure do not have time myself but may clear my schedule for kicking that in high gear myself if other things don't give soon. . if the wife is going to park in the house garage at all before the snow comes then my Bugatti will likely have to be hoisted up onto my CNC router table rendering it unusable!!! <sigh>

So now that the Goblin is in my shop- did I mention just how crowded things are?? oy!!. . . I thought it would be nice to take a tiny break on all the housework and attach some of the parts that showed up over the last year and get them out from underfoot. It should be easy. . .right? hahaha not on this goblin. . .so I pop open the DF goblin parking brake kit thinking it will just be a wee little project. Well the dang kit was missing multiple parts. . .only got one anti rattle clip. missing one of the m12 x 55mm bolts to mount the calipers. . . also don't have cables- these just off the top of my head. also my goblin has the THICK drive shafts and heavier "uprights" apparently requiring different hubs than the majority. . . amazon and u-pull it to the rescue right? um hmm. Add a couple weeks of waiting for things to arrive. . . what's another hundred or so in parts at this point, right? (grrrr) (as of today, i think,. . . maybe the brake kit can be moved forward on- parts are in hand.)

So the 3d printed wheel spacers are not even close to fitting. . . here is a comparison of uprights:

now I have several 3D printers - mostly not re-connected for this move thing but given brakes get hot and 3d parts will melt the 3D spacer thing is a bad idea to me. I dug around in the scrap bin and found a bronze bushing that I turned down to a pair of spacers for my given brakes. Quite the size difference from the goblin provided part!!!! I guess the lathe work on my baby lathe is kind of a therapy to for all the project frustration.

I haven't yet got a pic of the fit-up of these with the rotors but all press fit now. I was 100% unimpressed by the re-drilling job on Goblins rear rotors. . .they may go on the car just so I can eventually get this project turned out but if I keep the goblin they wont be around long. . I haven't yet checked them for balance but I am certain that they are not even close too. . . . .

oy! NEW issue: what the heck is the deal with cobalt seats, the tunnel spacing and the parking brake handle? Do I need to hack up the seats, the handle bracket or both? I'll pop back in with pics in a bit. frustrated in the extreme right now.

Yes. Seat mounts. Outside of the seat mounts need to be trimmed on the outside edges to clear. Grinder with a cut off wheel.

Here is fit up of the goblin supplied disc and my bronze centering adapter.

Aren't these supposed to be off a solstice or sky? I happen to have both of those cars. . . and my wheels fit the Goblin nicely so wondering if the info is off for the source or something. There should be no need to re-drill the rotors.

so this is one area that concerns me. that silver-ish bracket is going to end up mutually exclusive for the space over the passenger seat. drivers seat is not even bolted down yet and the plastic is HARD on tunnel and frame

52984

the biggest concern though- is i need another 1/4 at least to get the front claws to engage in the front or hack a bunch off the slide in front of the claws. . .
52985

sorry but it was hard enough to get this image. . . .basically the top part of the claw seen here is set inside the cutouts on the floor pan but cannot slide forward under the frame cross member because the U shaped track hits the cross member first. . .the claw top edge is a 1/4 inch too high. does this get hacked off on both slides?

The centering rings and rotors you have are for a 4 lug bearing hub. The centering ring you machined yourself looks very similar to our 5 lug bearing hub (see photo below). We've never pulled a melted ASA centering ring off of a car. Since they don't really see any forces after the lug nuts are tightened and the rotor is sandwiched between the wheel and the hub, they'd need to get close to 400 F before they start oozing out.

Centering rings photo. 4 lug left and 5 lug right.

I double checked your order from 4/15/24 and it was for a 4x100 kit. We have three versions of the parking brake kit available: 4 Lug, 5 Lug, and Turbocharged. This leads to the next problem.

The reason we have one kit specifically for turbocharged cars is that the turbocharged knuckles are different enough that we have to make two different styles of the parking brake caliper mounts. The mounts in the 4x100 kit won't work with the TC knuckles and neither will any of the M12 bolts (you'll use 8 x HHCS M12 x 1.75 x 60 with the TC adapters).

I do agree that when we drill the rotors to be 4 lug they do end up looking a bit like Swiss cheese but the balance is nearly identical to the off the shelf rotors. The OEM rotors for a Solstice have an asymmetrical pattern. The pattern we drill is symmetrical so it doesn't have an effect on the balance of the rotor except that we do remove a little bit of extra material where the chamfered hole is.

We have found that some of the calipers are missing the anti-rattle clips. I think they went missing when the calipers were opened to machine the brackets. I can send you one.

Finally, there are a few items we do not supply with the parking brake kit including the brake handle, cable guide tubes, and the parking brake cables. This is mentioned on the order page where we recommend to keep the handle and tubes from the donor and to buy the cables from an auto parts store. You'll want the SS/TC cables for the easiest installation.

So, here's the rundown of where to go from here.
Rotors - **Edit after seeing the new post of your hubs** Since you are running the standard 5x110 pattern, you can use off the shelf rotors. We redrill every single rotor so that they either have 4x100 added or 5x114.3 added. This is because so many guys choose to go 5x114.3 that it makes sense for us to do them all. If you get 5 lug rotors from us, they'll work for 5x110 and 5x114.3 but in your situation, I would just get off the shelf rotors.

Calipers - Good to go.

Mounting Hardware - You'll need our TC caliper mounts and the longer bolts.

Miscellaneous - You'll need SS/TC parking brake cables from an auto parts store or website.

Shoot us an email and we'll get things figured out.

If you ordered the parking brake upgrade, then yes, the goblin's rear brakes will be from the solstice.
You can trim the plastic on the sides of the seat.

Hi Adam!

Thank you for personally popping in to my build log!

the shipping document that came with the parking brake kit does indeed say 4 lug. . . . .though my email confirmation of the order does not specify either kit.

As I mentioned. . .as of today I think I have all the parts. . .maybe. I got cables from a u-pull it and just incase ordered the universal kit recommended by some from amazon- it is here too. I have several other cobalts here to be disassembled but unfortunately they are all supercharged or NA. no more turbos at this time.

I haven't tried the mounting brackets yet with the pads but they did thread on on one side when test fit before. I guess I will be sending an email shortly if brackets will indeed be a thing. if not for soooooo much to do right now I think a bit of time on the Bridgeport making chips and new brackets would be therapeutic. though even if not so busy it would be a very long time til I have enough billet parts on the other projects to bother running the anodizing tank.
