V1 Mahkoi's #299. Ext Track. SS Turbo.

SmsDetroit
It's been a while since I had an update.

I bought a power outlet and voltage gauge a couple of months ago and finally got around to wiring it in tonight. Now I don't have to worry about my speedometer (phone) having a dead battery.

My wife was kind enough to take a picture while I was wiring it in.

The other thing I'm working on is a miss fire under high boost and high rpm. I was talking about it with one of my coworkers who does a lot of boosted LS engines. He questioned me running stock plug gap. I brought them down to .028 and didn't have the issue when I test drove it last night. I'll do a couple more test runs before I call it solved
Did the gap in your plugs fix the problem. I’m having the same issue

It seems much happier at .028, I've only had the chance to go out for a couple of short trips since I changed the gap but haven't had the issue on those trips.

.....I think next time I'll use something like sendcutsend for a project like this. Started out as a 6inx6in 1/4in SS steel plate and turned into the exhaust flange after quite a bit of work. I'm getting started on my winter projects early. I like the idea of my current exhaust but I poorly executed it so this time it's going stainless and will be welded by someone that knows what they are doing. More pics to come as it gets assembled.

So if I send you a 3" hole saw and some drill bits, I too can have one of these :p

I ordered a steel one from somewhere before, but SS is the way to go.
Haha I'm not sure my ancient craftsman drill press has another go at one of these left in it. Now, if my coworker who bought a plasma table years ago and still hasn't set it up in his garage yet would get it going there could be potential there.

A couple hundred $ in materials and a 2 1/2lb bag of homemade beef jerky for payment to have my coworker weld it and the new SS exhaust is finished. I accidentally got a bit of a slant to my muffler but that's my fault and not the welders. My last exhaust had the same slant so at least I'm consistent with my mistakes. Overall I'm really happy with how it came out. The car is on jackstands right now so I'm not sure how sounds when being driven, but it is more aggressive sounding at idle and revving in neutral.

Material list:
1/4in 6inx6in SS plate from Amazon

3in 90° SS elbow from black widow exhaust x2

3in SS U bend from black widow exhaust

Widowmaker 10 muffler from black widow exhaust

2 bottom round roasts from Costco and this jerky recipe

Custom exhaust is nice! You will have to get a sound file and put it in here so we can all hear what it sounds like. Should be very healthy!

Of course, when I can get it out of the garage I'll get one. The mic on my phone struggles to get any kind of decent sound quality with all the sound bouncing off the garage walls. But it's definitely louder than my old set up which that was louder than the DF exhaust. This is my guess as to why this set up is fairly loud......

The turbo does provide a minor sound reduction, compared to a non-turbo exhaust header (less raspy most times), but the straight thru mufflers will generally give some attention at certain frequencies and can accentuate at others. The 360 degrees of bends in your exhaust will also help to reflect sounds and create attention (and accentuation) at some frequencies too. It should sound awesome. ;)

The 'muffler' on my exhaust is there for looks (mostly), but I added in a pair of sound deflection cones to hopefully get the sound below the (new) 100 dB threshold in the new SCCA Solo rules book - maybe.

These could be added to your exhaust as a last resort (cutting and welding would be required) if it doesn't meet requirements - yours, the neighbors, or the local law enforcement. They do reduce 2-3 dB which can make all the difference. :D

Good to know. Local PD doesn't seem to care. I doubt the neighbors will care. One side runs dirtbikes constantly. The other side is an older guy who looks like he used build cars back in the day when you can catch a glimpse into his garage and across the street is a monte carlo with a supercharger that covers most of the windshield and has a chute on the back....that thing shakes stuff inside my house when he leaves his driveway and I love it.

*winter is almost over build log update*

I think I finished all the winter projects I wanted to do on the car.

-new exhaust
-flip front shocks
-drill the Critter Splitter so I have access to the hood fasteners
-engine oil/filter change

Also found my battery was leaking at the posts and ate up my powdercoat on the battery box. So I replaced the battery and installed a little 2amp Noco Genius on board charger and plug socket for when the car sits. It must have been a long time since I've bought a car battery.....those prices have changed quite a bit. I had it in head that it's was going to be $100. I was wrong.

Now I just need a solid rain to wash the last round (hopefully last) of salt off the road before I take it out.

Great idea to hardwire the charger and have a covered external plug. Was looking at this myself, since a full size lead-acid AGM won't fit into my battery box location anymore. Looking at a 600CCA lithium-ion that has slightly smaller dimensions and will squeeze in between the triangulation bars added to my frame...and a charger is mandatory.
