V1 MX184's Roadster Bodied Track Goblin #311 Log

Let us know how the drag-n-drive goes! I'm doing Sick Summer in June and I've never drag raced before so it should be interesting!

Congrats on the tag. It’s a long process but worth the wait. I think Paul said he was looking for slicks or another tire so now y’all are making me nervous now.

Day one of Carolina Drag Cruise was yesterday. 70 miles in total for us and two passes down Geer dragway resulting in a 8.84 @ 76 mph in the 1/8th. Not bad for a completely stock l61!

Got to meet @Rauq and his twin charged gobzilla.

I don't know if I'd ever do another drag and drive again. I'll never say never, but it was one heck of an adventure. I was able to cruise some really cool Carolina back roads unlike anything this Florida guy has ever been on. Made passes down a couple of historic drag strips. Met a bunch of great people. Drove 30 miles in one heck of a storm at one point. The goblin did it all and never skipped a beat. It's down right silly how much attention this car gets as well. From the media covering the event to random people coming up and chatting in the lanes at the tracks, I definitely wasn't ready for that. Anyways here are a few more photos from Carolina Drag Cruise. Oh and if anybody is curious, this completely stock n/a automatic transmission goblin ran 8.84@76 mph in the 1/8th.

I'm going to miss my next scheduled autocross due to a work commitment, so I have a month to work a few small things before I take it to sebring for a track day. And maybe just maybe I'll get started on hanging that body on the car.

I had only two passes the entire event where I did not beat the car in the other lane......and that was one of them. It was a good race until I hit third gear. My gearbox must have a huge jump in ratios from two-three cause the car lays over big time after that shift.

Here is the video of that run->

Sebring track day, check!

Here is a lap around sebring raceway during my first session in the goblin during the Gravity Rally track day Sunday. I was learning the layout during this run and getting a feel for the car at speed so naturally I just took it easy in this video. By the end of the day I was going much quicker and was hitting max speed of the car on the straights. According to my Racebox pro GPS in my last session I did a best of 2:51.909. Unfortunately I did not capture any of my true "hot laps" on camera so that's a bummer.... guess I need to go back

I can't thank Shawn and company at Attacking The Clock Racing enough for the setup work they did to this little kit car. Even with no aero at all the car was 100% predictable and consistent lap after lap. By the end of the day I was getting more "point bys" than I had people passing me.

Time to check everything over and get it ready for the next Central Florida SCCA autocross in Daytona in a few weeks.

I know Goblins are made for burying the speedo, but... what was your top speed?

Looks good man! Pretty cool that we both did drag racing and road course within a month. How'd the paddle shifters do for you?

110 is all this stock l61 will do. Which for me is plenty fast, not sure how many true track days I'm going to do with it after seeing that other blue goblin torn up in the other part of the forum. May just stick to autocross with mine.

The paddle shifters are giving me grief. I can command it to shift and it does but if the computer doesn't want it in that gear it shifts right back. Or if I left it in high gear to go down the front stretch and stomped the gas it would down shift on its own. So I've still got something to figure out with those. I'm starting to regret not waiting for a manual trans donor to pop up on copart.

Congrats on your entry into the Freedom Factory Spectator Drags! I'd been wondering if anyone would make a connection between Cleetus's Atom and the Goblin. Feel free to suggest to Cleetus that he can just add a turbo to the motor in that Atom, it's been done before!

Thanks I was told Justin Reed has applied to run there before and was not approved. Not sure how I got in but should be a fun day if I actually get to turn some laps.

Get in touch, I have been researching converting automatics to manuals and most of the difference in in the engine harness and just needs to be deleted. Some wires must be run to the clutch switch(and obviously a clutch pedal and switch must be added.) and laced into your harness. The body control module may need to be messed with with a programmer/scanner. Sadly when you built your harness you and everyone else cuts away the excess wires you will have to fabricate but I don't believe there are very many, maybe 4? Many differences between years but I'll gladly share my progress so far!

Justin has been denied too? I got denied for spectator drags but the open track day is probably a totally different ball game.

I'm guessing that the spectator drags practice must be solo runs only. Thats gotta be why I was approved and not others for the actual events. Or like someone else said on my IG they possibly had a change in insurance maybe? Its only an hour-ish away from me but I hope I dont waste half the day loading the car on the trailer and towing down there just to get told I cant run.

BTW How did you do on your Drag and Drive? I believe you and I are the only two goblins to have competed on that type of event so far.

I'll probably keep mine as an automatic for now and just get the paddle shift situation figured out. I wanna start getting the roadster body hung on the car but that is going to take skills that I honestly don't have yet. That is my next major goblin project. I four bought massive pieces of foam to use as a form for the fiberglass work thats going to be required. I have a few small projects around the house that need to be done first for my insurance renewal then back to the goblin.

It went pretty well! We only had one mechanical issue which was a bad alternator or a bad connection or a bad connection that caused a bad alternator but either way we got that sorted. We got rained out on Tuesday but other than that it was really nice weather. The fastest pass was a 12.24 if I remember correctly. The car can definitely go faster if I can figure out how to launch and get the tune dialed in. It was set to get dyno tuned the week before the event which got cancelled last minute so then I lined up a guy to remote tune it and then he cancelled as well so I started trying to learn how to tune a couple days before the event started. A lot of the time was spent trying to get the tune dialed in but we couldn't tune on the street between tracks because we were pulling the trailer. The announcer kept talking about you every time I pulled up to make another pass.

So of course Cleetus wanted to run me when he saw the car. I said let me get a couple of laps in and we can line up. Unfortantly the rain came last night right as we were getting in line to run each other. I'd say that has to be about the sketchest thing I've done in the goblin to date. Straight sending it on cold tires on a track I've never been around next to drivers with an unknown skill set. The very first guy I ran over cooked it coming into turn three and came up the track. I backed out cause I saw and heard him coming. Second run I had a good little battle with a BIG turbo focus rs. He flat out just beat me. I'll get the videos uploaded tonight.
