Hello, everyone!

I’m Josh, owner of category V port worx.

While I don’t have a goblin, I’ve been around the ecotec community since late 2005.
It’s nice to have some real forums again!

I’ve also been associated with and worked on a few that have come through the shop. Weather it be for supercharged or cylinder head porting, or diagnoses and repair, I do a little bit of everything.

While I typically stick to Facebook, I thought it would be a good decision to introduce myself to the DF crowd a bit more formally.

Category V port worx also makes and or stocks some hard to find parts that many DF customers have had trouble finding.
Such as camshaft position sensor housing gaskets
As well as a flexible dibstick tube. (Great replacement option since they so commonly break)

nonetheless, I look forward to being a part of the DF forums and help where I can!

Here’s a link the the website for those curious.
happy modding!

Regarding your offerings, do you have or share pricing for head and/or supercharger porting?

And on a technical level, could you share your perspective on cam regrinds? I came across this as a service recently and it seems like a decent way to add a bit more breathing without having to worry about the aftermarket cam degree issues I keep reading about.

What engine in particular?
I haven’t listed my porting prices on the website, as I currently have a lengthy lead time.

I’d be more than happy to answer pricing questions via PM or email.
I know that sort of thing was very frowned upon in older forums I’ve been a part of.

there are a few cam options for the 2.2 as well as the 2.0 LSJ, but we hope to change that in the future.
What is your intended purpose of your car? Hp goal? Budget?

I have an LSJ, so that's my focus on head and supercharger porting.

As far as I know we're not set up for board sponsors, so I don't think you would be stepping on anyone's toes talking about pricing, but I can PM you either way.

I'm generally curious as to how cost-effective porting and cams are in terms of hp/$ on an Ecotec I threw an LS6 cam, Chevy performance valve springs, and 317 heads at a 5.3 a few years back, which should've been over half of the power gains of a custom cam and aftermarket ported heads, at well under half the cost. I don't have any particular power numbers in mind, but one day I'd like to make more power than an otherwise stock pulley + tune LSJ can make. Most of my fun time in the car is on mountain roads, so my inclination is that my first jump wouldn't be to pull the supercharger and install a turbo, as effective and easy as that might be. I'd love to stick with literally 0 lag. I'll probably end up spending a couple grand in the next few years chasing power.

Regarding regrinds, I was specifically curious to see if you had any input like "that's a real thing" or "that's a waste of money" or "that eats hydraulic lifters" or anything like that.

Head porting is
$980 and includes the following:

Full inspection of cylinder head and all bolt holes cleaned.

resurfacing of deck surface
Hot tanked
Valve job
Viton valve seals
Free spring install if you supply them.

M62 services

Ported outlet and inlet to accept the LS4 throttle body. (Also includes snout machining for smaller pulleys if necessary at no extra charge)
$$300
Case bearings , parts and labor-$125

If necessary, full snout rebuild is $125

Other options-
Fresh sc oil-$25
Coupler-$25

Regrinds are a thing, yes.
however this can minimize the base circle and cause issues with the hydraulic lash adjusters.
you’ve got some options there, with either shimming the factory adjuster and deleting the hydraulic portion of it, or machine to fit.
I will say they you will see the best results from a shimmed or solid adjuster.
Especially with higher spring rates that can collapse the LA and cause decreased lift and duration.

A ported M62 is a lot of fun in a goblin.
We recently did this, along with a 2.9 to keep heat in check and it’s a blast.
E85 and an LS4 throttle body would only help more.

Personally, I’d suggest doing the blower first since it’s cheaper and least invasive.

you’ll see even better results with adding the ported head and cams after the fact.

Josh @ Cat V does top-notch work!

He ported and did a full service (with new bearings and oil) on my blower this spring.
