V1 Towerdog's Indiana Street Goblin Build (#250) 07 SS/SC Donor

Tranny runs (by hand) through all the gears smooth but I caint find reverse.
Do you know about the reverse lockout feature on the shifter?
You need to pull up on the ring below the shifter knob to get it in reverse.
This caught me, as I had never seen this feature on a manual before.

I was just spinning the spline shaft and moving the levers on the tranny......

So I was able to get my trans painted last night. Turned out ok I guess. a little shinier than what I was hoping for.

Machined an aluminum slug to put in the AC pump
That is a lot nicer than the paper wad and caulk that filled my gutted AC pump.
Did some lathe work myself today - putting a new 2 cylinder head on my shop air compressor.

Mine was last winters project. I don't use it much but it's nice to have when you need one.

With a Bridgeport milling machine. Nice! Did some milling today too... Little flat spot on the motor pulley adapter. My lathe & milling machine is way smaller than your nice equipment - but they still did the job.

I got them cheap.... Had a guy offer me $6k for the lathe... Just couldn't do it. They don't make them like they used to.

Swapped out the trans for the engine this morning and did the final cleaning of dirt and oil that was hidden behind stuff on the block. Really starting to wish I wasn't so OCD! It is an ungodly amount of work to repaint the whole engine. But I keep telling myself it is after all the focal point of the car!

I feel you on painting the engine. I think I have more time into cleaning and prepping the drivetrain for paint than I spent tearing down the donor. It’s definitely going to be worth it!!

And just when you think you have it good and clean, you find a nook or cranny where gunk is hiding! Well after two days of cleaning and recleaning it is ready to paint. Paint tonight and start reassembly this weekend,,, Let it cure a few days and all the gaskets should be here by then.

For those of you that are prepping or cleaning parts. I have found these poly brushes work better on aluminum than stainless or brass. They don't grab and pull like the metal based ones do also.

Good points to be made using steel brushes have two main things going against them 1) they are harder than aluminum and tend to distort the surface [mainly due to heat generation] which results in the 'brushed' look and 2) they leave behind little bits of steel compound [iron, carbon, etc.] that can result in dissimilar metals corrosion over time. Brass is the same, leaving copper and tin behind. Using a composite non-metallic brush will not leave dissimilar bits behind and tends not to distort the aluminum surface.

So my book says that the valve cover bolts are to be torqued to 71 ft lbs! that seems like a lot for that size bolt (typically 28-40 ft lbs). The book has the 2.2 and 2.4L covers at 89 in lbs.

Anyone know what the correct torque is supposed to be?
