V1 LeoZug's Montana Street Goblin - '05 Cobalt SS donor

Oh man! Huge step I think! Found the plug h see the throttle body! Man it was buried. Now when I turn the key to ACC I get a click near the engine and when I push the gas pedal I get a click. When crank, it sounds like I get one fire and it stops. Almost like a signal gets sent to stop for some reason. I can’t thank you guys enough for all the help. I know I’ve been a pain. Just this progress tonight had me floating. I need to figure out how to get it fully running!

One fire? Elaborate.
Like 2 seconds of run time? or runs up and then quickly shuts off? Or?

Seems almost like it’s turns over and fires once but then that’s it. It’s hard to tell I guess. I’ll get a vid of it happening in the morning and send it. Thank you all again.

Ok so I tried again this morning. When I turn the key to ACC I get the butterfly in the throttle body flapping open then closed, and when I push the throttle it opens and closes every time. So that’s good! When I crank I still only get what sounds like one, maybe two combustions but then it stops. If I hold the clutch in I get a mechanical clunking sound that is maybe the starter still trying to engage? It all happens quick so it tough to pinpoint. I have a vid but I can’t post it.

have you tried jumping the car with another vehicle? Could just be your battery.

is all of your dash and the front of the car hooked up? Minus lights, those will not make a difference. You will need the cluster, powersteering, and ignition/VATS hooked up.

Also, could try banging on the starter with a rubber mallet while trying to crank. It might be going out.

I’ve had the battery on a trickle charger so I don’t think that’s it. I don’t have most of the dash buttons hooked up like cruise, data reset, cuz I wasn’t going to use them.

Most of my codes are gone but I still have these:

P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction
P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input
P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

I think the 141 code is new.

Leo, grab a stool and go sit in the garage. You and the Goblin. Look, feel, talk to your Goblin and yourself, think, ponder, trace in your mind the steps you've taken and where you started, and how you got to where you are. In quietness, relax. Now, walk away for a few hours, a day, then come back.

Just thoughts from an outsider, non builder!

Haha. Appreciate it. I want to get this thing moving before our very long Montana winter starts. Or I’ll be waiting another 6 months to drive it. I’m already 7 months into this build.

Can anyone confirm that my fuel pump fuse is in the right spot? It can also go in the spot right next to it and the diagram in the cover is a little vague.

I can’t thank you all enough.

Next question is that I need to bump the gas here and there to keep it running. also just got a low fuel notice but I do t think that’s right. Said I had 3/4 tank which also seems high.
Gonna try to take the car to a local shop that worked on the cobalt to see if they can tidy all the computer stuff up.

This is more than likely able to be smoothed out with tuning, either taking it somewhere or buying HP Tuners and doing it yourself. I had erratic idle and random shut offs when first running the engine too.

I will say buying the HP Tuners MPVI and learning myself was a great experience and taught me a lot about the inner workings of it all, it was nerve racking at first but with research and a little confidence it can be done.

Look into getting a wideband setup if you’re going to do any tuning yourself, also a great thing to have just to monitor.
