V1 LeoZug's Montana Street Goblin - '05 Cobalt SS donor

Even if you don’t purge the air from the fuel line the fuel doesn’t have far to travel anyway. It’ll probably start in 10-15 seconds

Turn your key to the run position, that should energize the fuel pump. Then press the fuel rail schrader valve. I don't have to crank the engine to get fuel pressure.

On my '06 LSJ the fuel pump will run for about 5s with key on engine off once. To get the pump to run again, you'd either have to wait 10 minutes, or the PCM needs to see some RPM. Meaning, if you turn the key to on and leave it there, or cycle it off-on-off-on, you're not going to get any additional fuel pump priming beyond the initial 5 seconds. You can either manually relay the pump at the fuse box or turn it on in HP Tuners.

That being said, I don't remember an empty fuel significantly delaying my first startup.

Additional quick thoughts, from what I recall having read the '05 LSJ pump is less flow and less reliable than the '06-07, and the fuel pump module has additional sensors (tank pressure at least). I believe the '06+ module minus the pump is the same for all non-turbo non-XFE Cobalts, so to me it makes sense to put a "standard Cobalt" connector on the harness. Fortunately it's helpful that DF does this on their harnesses, unfortunate that it's a well documented thing that's easy to miss if you don't know to look for it.

I found the Schrader valve on the fuel rail and when I pushed it I got a little fuel and some spattering. Then after cranking it a little I tried again and got almost nothing. A few tries like this with same results. I'm assuming I'm getting no fuel flow? I went ahead and ordered the '06 OEM fuel pump from rock auto. Hope that works. I just want to drive this **** thing.

I'm sad I can only up vote this ONCE!??? Well life's not exactly fair now is it? "When" is always an open question. I feel sure it will go and you will drive it, it's just having a little teething trouble just now. Try to be patient, building your own car is a luxury many will never know. You are one of the lucky ones! ;)

At least I know I never want to build another car…
I am 63 y/o, worked on cars since I was 18. I've heard that from a dozen or more guys, I think one guy meant it! It certainly is a fork in the road of life, but I won't be surprised to hear you built this car and decided to do it again. The feeling of driving something you built or even modified is highly satisfying and can be addictive, in a good way. Stay Strong!

I love the fabricating and assembling part. And of course the driving part. But I feel like every step of this project has been a pain. Between the super hit-or-miss instructions and the straight up feeling of “I have no idea where this goes or what it is” more times than I can count, I’ve lost enough sleep due to cars. IF I do another car it will be a runner that needs to be cleaned up. This project has devolved into not fun at all.

It’ll make you stronger. Not to mention, when someone asks you something about the car you will have an answer, instead of “I don’t know, it was like that when I bought it”
