V1 Robinjo #405 Full Cage - 2006 SS/SC Build "Drago"

Robinjo
It might have just been who I got. The lady next to her eventually had to help guide through the process. In the end, they got it done.

Next up on issues to solve, I have a couple I'm working on. The Info switch doesn't work, but the return one does if a message pops up on the dash. Also, the temperature readout on the dash just reads '---'. I looked this up on the SS forums and it said that the cause is the thermostat or the temperature sensor. I replaced both but still have the '---'. I'm going to investigate further but any info would be appreciated.

I had the temperature of --- when the GM high speed LAN wasn't communicating well.
For our 2006 SS SC cars, the data flows on these wires. Any one of those connections or computers could be the issue. For me, replacing the power steering fixed it.

Were you having issues with the Power Steering unit though? Mine does work. Just seeing if this was the culprit and still functioning properly.

Robinjo
Yes, I was. Intermittent power steering feature.
Ok then, I guess I'll start tracking things down on that list. Thanks for the place to start.

I will note, everything else works except the temperature readout on the dash. All the time, not intermittently.

you can view ambient temperature through ODB2 using one of the cheap bluetooth scanners and torque lite app. If you can read the ambient air temp through the scanner perhaps you could narrow it down to your gauge cluster?

Found this diagram for a 2005 but maybe it will help with testing continuity between the sensor connector pins and the BCM (bottom right corner of the drawing)

Also, I started a new thread to discuss this issue further instead of here in the build log.

Since I'm 95% completed and driving my Goblin I thought my build log would shift along with the new status. So now, it'll start chronicling the things I do to the vehicle or problems that will pop up.

Last night I swapped the orientation of the rear toe bar and all I can say is wow! It took a little of the tweakiness (it's a word!) out when accelerating but the biggest notice is how much more planted the cars is on bumps at 75-80. Correct orientation below:

Things to Work On
Will not stay started issue - solved. MAF and Injector plug was swapped.
Tach temperature readout says "---" - Ongoing
No ambient temperature readout (may be related to above)
Info switch does not work (return does)
Adjust headlights - Adjusted to 4.5 degrees above, seems much better
Flip rear toe bar - completed.
Swap tag light (broke the 1st one) - New one on order and will swap when permanent tag arrives.
Front trans mount
Install front splitter - awaiting completion of unit

Possibly made a discovery on my Ambient Air issue. I do not have the black units below! I just have a green and blue plug. I must have left that sensor with the donor so a new one is one the way.

I think you found the issue - you sort of need the sensor in order to sense the temperature. lol

I imagine this one is commonly missed because it's tucked away in the driver-side headlight housing IIRC. Even after I found it, I think I misplaced it a handful of times prior to actually installing it.

edit: These things are like $2 on Rock Auto. I only know because I looked it up one of the times I lost it.

O'Reily's ended up having one for $6 or $8, so I reserved it for myself and will get it after work. Hopefully that is one minor issue down. A few (and counting) more to go.

Awesome! The car will get even better as you dial in the alignment over time.

Plugged in the Ambient Temp Sensor into the harness and I now have a temperature readout on my dash. For some reason, I was thinking this would be the coolant temperature, so that was why I was wanting to get it. I guess that is in the 'Info' from the readout which my button does not work right now. I'm hoping it's just a faulty button, but I think it might just be in my wiring harness. Also had a new issue pop up. I lost reverse and 5th gear. It seems the shift lever will not go far enough over to grab them right now, so I'm going to just start at zero from the Lonnie instructions. I did fiddle with a linkage when one broke and it's probably from that.

Things to Work On
  • Tach temperature readout says "---" - Fixed, just needed a sensor
  • No ambient temperature readout (may be related to above)
  • Info switch does not work (return does)
  • Swap tag light (broke the 1st one) - New one on order and will swap when permanent tag arrives.
  • Front trans mount
  • Install front splitter - awaiting completion of unit
  • Re-do gear shift steps (missing 5th and reverse)
  • Bleed brakes again, no issue just doing it to make sure all air is out. I'm going to do this a bunch of times when the hood is off.
  • Make throttle pedal spring mount
