Is the bleed by standard? The piston rings have gaps in them, correct? I’m really green in this department and I’m sure it’s showing. The leaking air is most likely caused by the crank and cams position relative to TDC. The intake valves on 3 and 4 may be slight open allowing air leakage between them. The valves are now fully closed on 1 to be passing. But the air leaking from the dip stick and valve cover is the bleed-by of the piston rings.
Okay, I see that now as I turn it with the valve cover off. It makes sense now. Thank you and I am super green in this department. Figuring out things as I go. :/If the valve cover is on, put your finger on the spark plug hole and see if it is trying to push air when bringing the piston up to TDC. You are running the leak down test with the cylinder at TDC? You do realize a 4 stroke engine has 2 times at TDC during it's operation, one with valves closed and one with the exhaust open?
If the valve cover is off, make sure the cam lobes are not pushing the valves open.
Yes, believe it or not I did do that right. Just rechecked and all numbers are the same.Yes, you need everything closed to do the leak down test. This is why your compression test indicates ok health and the leak down didn't.
You did have all the spark plugs removed and the throttle open when you ran the compress test? Did you rerun #4 to confirm it is slightly lower than the others? Although 6% low isn't bad. If the compression test was done accurately, with those results I probably wouldn't have looked any further.
Leak down test is not the same as a compression test. Are we talking about the same thing? Confusion on this testing can lead your help/ us down wrong turns! Want to help but we must be careful of test names and resulting numbers. Glad to help, I just don’t want to mislead you!Pulled valve cover to replace gaskets and noticed milky sludge in the front right rectangular port closest to the front of the car. When everything was back together cylinder 1 passed but cylinder 4 now fails a leak down test. I am puzzled.
Running to get a scope now to look inside.
Air now leaks from cylinder 4 to cylinder 3. Just like it was on cylinder 1. I also noticed air coming from dip stick and the hose connection on the top left back of the engine leading to the intake.
Understood, and I apologize if there was any confusion.Leak down test is not the same as a compression test. Are we talking about the same thing? WAIT!! DON’T Eat that FRY!! AHHHHGH! Please tell me you didn’t eat it! Then again you’re not my son at 4 Y/O! He almost got it in his mouth! (No wonder he grew up to be Marine Infantry!)Moved forward with the project and got through video 2 of stripping the donor. Thank you for the engine advice. I learned something new so I can’t complain, can’t say that for those who helped but it is appreciative. With stripping so far I’ve had an interesting time with the door plugs. They’re different than the video and had to take the door off first. Had to chop the wipers off with a sawzall due to being rust welded on. I’m excited to get the seats cleaned up, they’re in pretty good shape and will save me some moolah.
Other than that got $4.29 and a French fry.
I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving!
I have no idea actually, I’ve seen so many and usually covered in questionable sprinkles. I have never tried one! Naah. I’ll be erring on the side of caution!I thought fries were like whiskey and wine, only gets better with age?
You got $4.29 and a French fry?? I got 21 cents, a couple of target arrow tips, and a receipt from Barnes and Noble for the movie Ted 2.Moved forward with the project and got through video 2 of stripping the donor.
