V1 Track Day Monster 2009 SS/TC Track Frame

dperkins
Done with the donor car ;) Time to find someone to take the body and other crap.

The engine mods will be here next week which should keep me busy when I'm waiting for the frame to get here :D

You guys are making me wonder what I did wrong. :) I don't remember having any issues. It seemed really straight forward.

I'm having a hard time picturing where you're having issues. Can you snap a pic?
I was thinking the same thing. I remember worrying more about the springs falling out and hitting me in the shins.

dperkins
I could take a pic, but they already came off and I'm currently moving the car around on dollies.

Does anyone have a link to all the parts I need to save? I have a google photos folder with the parts for the auto LT and I want to make sure I have everything for the ss.

Not much different on the SS. The clutch assembly and all associated parts. I don't believe you even need to keep the brakes on the SS, but don't trust me on that one. The harness is slightly different. And obviously you will keep all the SS goodies on the engine.

We removed them in the video to allow easier access to the bearing hub bolts that are hidden behind the springs.

And since I was going to replace the bearing hubs with 4 lugs AND they had 159k miles on the bearing hubs, I just left the hubs and springs on the car.

Sorry for not updating in a bit.

Been working on the re wiring of the harnesses, not much to report on.

I do have one problem, though. At 16:00 on build vid 10, it says do not cut the twisted wires going to the black and purple multi coming from the onstar. The problem is one twisted wire went to the blue and black multi plug and the other goes to the black and red multiplug. I have some twisted wires coming from the purple multi, but not from the onstar plug.

Also, I looked on the internet for if I could remove the evap canister legally and still get registered, but I didn't see anything regarding CA. Does anyone know if I need to keep it?

I'm in the process if trying to figure out that evap system also I'm just going to keep it on so i dont have headache when trying to register here in jersey if you look at my build log towards the end you will see some pictures of the Fill Limit Vent Valve,Grade Vent Valve that I removed from my gas tank to some how install them on the new tank

I think you will be able to hook up the EVAP with out those 2 valves. They are for the over fill and to prevent leaks if you end up on your lid.
I would also be willing to bet that you will need the evap in CA

So I'm going to have to explain this the best I can.So I'm think to be able to eliminate to 2 valve I would have to just take a out the tee that goes to the filler neck and just run that Straight to the canister so wherre my finger is pointing that is where it was connected to the filler neck I'm i in the right track do you think that would work

The evap canister contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer or other reproductive harm. :)

Almost 100% sure CA will require the evap system. The state requires CARB compliant cold air intakes for crying out loud. :)

Yea Cali is Super strict bit nj is not to far away from that that's why I'm trying to figure out the way to get it on so when I reach that stage I'll be good

Yes I think that will work.

It's Christmas!

100 lbs of engine parts is pretty hard to carry down a flight of stairs, especially when you can't see anything.

I got a filter, injectors, cams, head studs, balance shafts, a flywheel, engine mounts, a clutch, forged pistons and rods, a throwing bearing, a ported head with upgraded rockers, and a few other miscellaneous things. Tomorrow the engine block will be delivered (300lbs of fun:eek:) and maybe a few other things. Turns out they were out of stock on the turbo and a pulley, so I'll have to wait a few weeks for it.

Doing some research, I found this website which states the evap system will only be tested on older cars that are before 95, so I don't know if I need it. I might have to call the gas station that I get my smog done at to see if they test for it.

Are you taking the opportunity build a new /current motor before its in the frame? I was thinking you had a running and driving donor already?

Edit: I reviewed you're thread again. You'll have to let us know how the engine looks on the inside after 270k.

I am mainly rebuilding it to see how the insides are doing and to make sure everything is ok. I was going to just open it up and check on things, but since I was going to raise the HP by a lot, I also wanted the extra security of knowing nothing will blow up (knock on wood). It’s also a fun learning experience, as I have never taken out an engine before.

It came in today! Forgot it came with pistons and rods so anyone want to buy some brand new pistons and rods off of me? :D I also forgot to grab a few covers, but I'll just use those off of the old one.

I was kind of wondering why you had bought pistons and rods. How long did your block take to ship? I just ordered one earlier this week.

dperkins
My pistons and rods are forged to give me insurance against throwing a rod or anything bad.

It took them about 2 days to start shipping and it then took 5 days to get to my house all the way from the Great Lakes with 100 dollar shipping.
