V1 How long runs your cooling fan after the engine is off?

Hi,

Just took my goblin for it's first ride. I noticed that the cooling fan runs like 5 min after the engine is off.

What triggers this?

The seller told me something about an ambient air temperature sensor he hasn't installed and it could be the reason.

Coolant during driving was in the 180f range

Coolant is still hot after shutoff. Unless the fan relay goes off when the key is off, the fan will run until the temp sensor sees cooler temps

M
Ok, so there is a temperature limit (setting) which triggers if the fan runs longer and how long?

Since the water is not circulating anymore there is not much cooling from the fan besides the water in the radiator.

I don’t think mine run at all after cut off but then again I don’t know that mine would normally be on when I stop, temps stay pretty low. I don’t think anything I own with electric fans continue to run after ignition off. It doesn’t really help anything for them to run unless you have an electric water pump. Maybe someone has rewired it to run off of a temperature switch, bypassing the ECM that normally controls it?

The driver's door circuit would allow certain circuits - radio, heater/AC, power windows, sunroof, etc. - to remain powered for a time period (5 minutes?) before the door was opened. It would kill these circuits when the door was opened, which is a reason some builders chose to add a 'door open' switch to their wiring harnesses to be certain everything is off in the car. Maybe your fan (or control) is coming off one of these circuits?

That must be it, on my second drive I noticed that the fan come one a few seconds maybe 30s or so after the engine is started. It then runs uninterrupted.

I'll have to find out where that thing gets power from.

Ok, so i searched for doors in the forum and looked in all 10 pages of the search result. Where do I find the information on where to attach the door switch?

Have you figured out what the original donor was? Start by adding it to your signature. I’ve got the service manual with wiring diagrams for the 2008-2010 donors. Wiring diagrams don’t come with the kit. There are videos to show how the harness is modified.

Typically use the light blue from fan1 relay.

I have a door ajar switch wired into mine but that should not be your issue. Your fan should be coming on with water temps above 217ish and shut off at 213ish. During normal driving in Houston I rarely get above the 185 thermostat temp and have gone months without the fan ever coming on. to have your fan come on in 30 seconds after starting and running continuously means that it is not wired to the right place.

By the wiring diagrams you should be using F10 light blue wire off of the X1 connector and run that to the + motor for the radiator fan. You can check continuity between the F10 tab in the block and the motor + wire by taking the fuse box plate off the top or by pulling the relay that connects that spade.

Yes, you are right about that. It could be wired this way to keep some are flowing through the driver and cool the driver ? :D

I will see if I can follow the wire, the harness is very nice wrapped And might be difficult to see where the power is coming from. That’s why the door ajar might be an option.

You don’t want the fan to run all the time, it’s not really designed for 100% duty and likely won’t live very long like that. And the fan running won’t cool the passenger compartment but will do the opposite.

Just pulling a new wire through, after confirming that the F10 wire is hot when it needs to be would be the best option. But if the settings aren’t changed in the tune it might not cut on until well over the 200 degree point.

Good point. I had a look at the goblin and located the fuse box and looked at the way to the front of the car. Just need some wire and wire protection. I hope the cable is still there, otherwise are the connectors which go in the plug at the bottom of the fuse box available?
